Baby moving less in day

I’m 37 weeks pregnant and have noticed recently that the baby seems to be moving less in the day. It moves constantly in the night though.

I don’t want to seem like I’m being OTT and go up to the hospital, but do you think it’s a problem that it moves less in the day?

I don’t like making a fuss but I’ve had a feeling that this pregnancy isn’t going to end in a baby the whole
way through.

I had a midwife appointment today and had scans etc and everything was fine. I didn’t mention the movement as I wasn’t sure if I was imagining it.

what would you do?

Sorry, I meant I’ve had a gut feeling that the baby won’t survive since the minute I got pregnant. I’ve been quite ill (epilepsy, high blood pressure etc), so not sure if that’s just making me overthink.

If I were you I would call the pregnancy unit and ask them what they think you should do!! It’s always, always better to be safe!! 💕

Please, please if you have even a gut feeling go and get checked over and over if need be. If moving less during the day is a new change it especially needs addressing. I’m not saying it’s the right thing to do but you could push for an induction due to this and the stress from your anxieties over this pregnancy. You’re definitely not being ott and even if you were, who cares! Xx

Just go and get checked out.

BuffaloCauliflower · 10/11/2025 18:42

Go and get checked, it’s never a mistake. Baby may be sleeping more in the day as they’re rocked by your movement, then awake at night when you’re still, but any change (more or less movement) is worth checking. I went in a couple of times with both pregnancies.

If you’re worried, call triage and go and get monitored.

My babies have always been quiet during the day and very active in the evening - so I appreciate how stressful it can be…!

You need to phone the maternity unit to get seen if you are ever worried about your babies movements.

I unfortunately know a couple of people who didn’t want to get things checked out as they thought it was just their anxiety and their baby was unwell.

I’m sure that’s not the case, but for peace of mind, I would personally go check. This is your baby and you’re allowed to advocate for them and worry about them.

Go and get checked to put your mind at ease. At 37 weeks, if you're not satisfied after a check I think they can offer you an induction (just from my experience overhearing many conversations in maternity assessment from my many many visits). They would rather you got checked even if it means you're in and out every day.

I'm 37 weeks too and baby has quiet days. For me, it's due to their position - head down and facing inwards, so I only feel baby when they're kicking or punching backwards, or pushing against my cervix. I'm a regular at the MAU though so definitely get checked out if you're worried.

SassyCow · 12/11/2025 12:03

Always always get checked out if your baby usual kicks and active time change or become less. They can monitor you and baby then and intervene if needed. Please don't hesitate or not want to make a fuss. You and baby need checking. Hope all is OK OP.

I went to get monitored this morning as I’d had cramps most of the night and barely felt the baby
Move.

The baby was kicking like mad during monitoring!!

I’m glad I went though - they reassured me everything was fine from a baby perspective. They also mentioned I may need an iron infusion & may have a UTI or some sort of infection as they found some green discharge when they took a swab (sorry for TMI).

At least my mind has been put at rest and they are looking into other issues as well!

Thanks all

Go and get checked for your own peace of mind. Mine were always quiet in day and bonkers at night.

Im sure your baby is just preparing you for what your life will be like for the first 6 weeks when day and night is backwards. Take care.
