i was in hospital yesterday with pains, my hcg was 22 on Thursday and yesterday (Sunday) it was only 21. My tests still look decent and I haven’t had any bleeding so I’m so confused because I was told it’s very unlikely it’s viable. Has anyone had this happen to them or what do I expect now?? I was told if I have any bleeding to go back to the ER

It's definitely not viable, not 'unlikely' (aside from a highly unlikely clinical lab error in your blood results). I wish drs would stop with the false hope. Your body will resolve the pregnancy, tests can stay lightly positive for ages but will eventually go negative. If you get any significant pain you must go to A&E. Not sure why theyve said to go in with any bleeding as you will inevitably bleed when the pregnancy has resolved itself... perhaps they meant any flooding (more than a pad in half an hour). I'm sorry you've had this outcome, if an ongoing pregnancy was what you were hoping for. The Worst Girl Gang ever are an excellent resource.

I'm sorry OP, but that does indicate the Dr may unfortunately be right.

It could be a chemical pregnancy or blighted ovum.

I agree it definitely isn’t viable with those numbers. Tests can stay positive for a while. Your body isn’t yet fully recognising the pregnancy isn’t viable so HCG isn’t dropping much yet. I’ve had a few MMC. One was a blighted ovum and I got to 7 weeks with dye stealer tests to find out it was just a sac. One stopped growing at 6 weeks and even after surgical management I had positive tests for a month. HCG can take a while to drop during miscarriage especially if you haven’t started bleeding yet. I’m also not sure why the doctor said to go back if you bleed? If they are expecting you to miscarry you will definitely bleed. And like the previous poster said unless it’s extremely heavy bleeding I’m not sure what A&E can do other than check your HCG is dropping? When I’ve had early miscarriages in the past the EPU have always just advised me to monitor bleeding and check my test is negative 3 weeks after the heavy bleeding.

Thanks everyone, yeah I was also confused as I assumed bleeding will be the natural cause. Apparently it’s because of how it stayed stagnant they believe there could still be a chance of it being etopic so maybe that’s why?

they are getting me to do another hcg test/ scan tomorrow or the following day to confirm it’s dropping and that they can’t see free fluid and go from there
