Hi everyone,

Looking for some guidance on what might be something silly.
Went for a scan last week at 6w2d and was measuring 4 days behind. Today at 7w4, I was measuring 6w ("at a push"). Very faint flicker of a heartbeat. Unfortunately I have been referred into an EPU for what they think will end in D&C (or medication). Rang the EPU this afternoon. The nurse said she needed to finalise with the midwife but that she would call back today to tell me whether to come in on Monday, in 7 days or 10 days. (??)They never called back.

I am distraught with today's news and this uncertainty is really difficult. My question is, what do I do about work on Monday? If I'm not being seen for ten days, where does that leave me? I am Principal of a very large primary school - very busy and stressful; not somewhere I can hide behind a desk. Because I'm not under the care of a doctor yet, I've nobody to sign me off. Do I just go to work and use it as a distraction?

Sorry if this is a really stupid thing to ask - I just don't know where to turn.

Sadly it's very common.

I am so sorry for you and @Preggemjun26

I found that telling myself it wasn't meant to be was the way I got through it, each time.

I hope you both have rainbow babies in 2026 or whenever you feel ready to do so.

My gut reaction, take the day off anyway! It will give you chance to find out more after the promised non call. In the teaching world you don't get a minute to yourself and you need the time for you. Wishing you the best outcome, put yourself first. Xxx

@ali2021 are you recovering all right?

ali2021 · 23/11/2025 19:54

Hi, @TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne thanks for checking in. All went well on Friday thankfully. It was a hard day emotionally, harder than I had anticipated but I got through it. No real bleeding or cramping per se, so that has been a relief. Just exhausted and a bit down in the dumps, but I will get there 💗

Very sorry to hear this and hope you’re physically ok and you’ll get there mentally in whatever way in your own time xx

I'm so sorry @ali2021 but at least it's done now.
That's no consolation of course, but you can try to recover and get back to "normal". It isn't easy though. I think it's an emotional nightmare actually.
Flowers and love to you.

Thank you everyone. Really touched at how kind people are to absolutely strangers - and anonymous ones at that!!!!
@Preggemjun26 apologies, completely missed your post. Best of luck to you for Tuesday, and I'm sorry to hear that you had your procedure cancelled last week.
Physically, I didnt have any discomfort or pain whatsoever once the procedure was done. I was glad to have done D&C rather than wait for nature to take its course. Sending lots of love ❤️
