Please help! I am 36+5 and have woken up with a massive coldsore on my lip. The big pounding sore kind of coldsore that came with no warning! I am having a c-section somewhere between 38 and 39 weeks due to gestational diabetes. I am devastated that if this does not go away fast I won't be able to kiss my baby when they are born. My husband is prone to them too so I am staying away from him aswell. Please wise mumsnetters what can I do to ger rid of this as quickly as possible? I have cream and am washing hands regularly and have my own towel. Is there anything else I can do?? I also don't sleep well hense my panicked 4am post.

I think the best thing you can do right now is just rest and try not to worry about anything. It’s easy for me to say but cold sores usually appear when you are feeling ill or run down.
It’s a reminder to treat yourself as if you’re sick and need some extra care and recovery time. Hope this will pass quickly and that you will be recovered by the time your little one arrives.

I got 2 big ones a few weeks ago, I think from being run down in pregnancy.

Have you heard of compeed patches? They are little clear patches that cover the coldsore and stop it cracking or getting any worse, also they protect from spreading. They can be quite dear but 100% worth it.

I second using Compeed patches, it will be gone in a week to 10 days. I got a coldsore less than a week after delivering my first and obviously you do need to be extremely careful with babies and coldsores, but the patches, plus diligent handwashing, made me feel much better as the coldsore is covered by the patch. They are such a pain but most likely it will be gone before baby arrives.
