Backs of legs hurting constantly - anybody got any cures?

To add to the painful BH and the random grabbing and squeezing of internal organs by my unborn son I now have massive leg cramps constantly and it bloody hurts. Never had this with DD.

DH is insisting I go to the docs on Monday (first available appt) but I don't think there is anything anyone can do is there? Rubbing them doesn't help at all, not so much cramps as burning pain from foot to bum.

you need more potassium - eat bananas.

I had a potassium deficiency a few weeks back when I was admitted with dehydration, but I've got back to normal levels - thanks to four sodding bananas a day.

I was told calcium deficiency could cause this but I take vits and eat really well (apart from vomiting daily).

Can you be given potassium intravenously? Might ask the docs on Monday to do another blood assay.

dh will be camping in the back bedroom for a while after this one is born until we crack the lying down breastfeeding thing.

ach, well, the man's got to make a living, i guess .

Can the man not even try lactating?

Well what worked for me was standing on a cold floor, lino etc would do but tile or stone better. Soon as you feel a cramp starting up go and stand on a cold floor with feet as flat as possible. Hope it helps you too!

oh and regular gentle exercise helps too - but requires more effort than standing on cold floor...!

whomovedmychocolate · 06/06/2008 22:34

Does chasing a toddler round while she flings poo right, left and centre from her nappy count as gentle exercise?

Sadly we don't have any cold floors either - I have tried sticking my feet in DDs paddling pool but that just makes me want to wee constantly!

Ouch! The thing is, if you've had a bad cramp, it will continue to hurt for ages afterwards. It could well be potassium, sodium or a general body-salts deficiency- can you take the re-hydration sachets?
Do the rotating your feet with legs supported exercise- that can help relax the muscles a bit.
