Movement that stopped? 19 weeks

I was deffo feeling baby move every day between weeks 17 and 19. It’s like nothing I’ve felt before, so I am pretty sure. However, the last few days I’ve maybe felt one or two small “taps.” I’ve not told my midwife today and regretting it now it’s 6pm and she’ll be off work already. But I just can’t stop worrying as it was so distinct before, especially if I was sat back a bit. I feel silly ringing the maternity assessment unit as what do I really say? I know it’s “normal” at this stage but to go from consistent to nothing is what is worrying me. I have a posterior placenta so it’s not down to it cushioning or anything. I know it’s still early, just can’t stop the spiral. Anyone experienced this?

Ive also not managed to go to the toilet for 3 days but I doubt that has much to do with it?! (That’s a whole other issue that laxido isn’t helping at all)

The best thing to do is just give a quick ring and talk it through with the out of hours team.

Some people say drink a cold glass of water to encourage movement or a sweet drink would help me.

You definitely know if what you are experiencing feels right or not so go with your instincts and don’t feel embarrassed.

I also felt movement all the way through and the half a day there wasn’t much I was in a proper flap but luckily the movement came back.

Any change of movements needs investigating. Call your midwife as I would imagine she would have emergency contact details on her voicemail or try the day ward or even the labour ward and speak with someone tonight.

There's another thread on this and someone has commented saying midwives aren't concerned about lack of movement until 24-26 weeks when movements should become more consistent. Definitely give the ward or your midwife a call to talk through your concerns. I'm sure they'd be happy to see you to help reassure you and make sure all is okay 😊

The same happened to me and I came in for a reassurance Doppler and heart the heartbeat, they didn’t scan at that stage

There are various things to run though eg drink a cold drink, have a bath, eat something sugary, lie on your side. If that doesn't elicit movement or what you're used to if you've been monitoring regularly, even at such an early stage, it's always worth calling them. At the very least it creates a record - I was thankfully induced after three instances of unexplained RFM, albeit at a later stage. Well done for being aware of your baby's movement. It's the absolute number one thing you can do for your baby.

Call your maternity triage and explain exactly this. I am a midwife and we often see women for this reason. Most of the time it is totally fine we just listen to her heart for 1 minute and send you on your way with reassurance. Patterns don't develop to later but trust your gut and go in and get checked just for peace of mind.

I am sure the advice on trying things like sugary cold drinks has been removed now and advice is to get checked out straight away. X

I'm glad to hear that if it's the case - I remember being advised to repeat it when I'd already done it and then when I did manage to trace movements they were very weak. It felt like too much back and forth with the maternity unit. It's an additional stress - it should always be checked by a professional where at all possible.

update: went for Doppler at maternity ward at 11pm at night and they found the heartbeat right away and timed for a minute and it was all good! Must just be tucking himself away somewhere.
