Covid vaccine

Hi, i am 10 weeks and i have been booked in to get the covid vaccine next week. This will be my first ever covid vaccine (life events at the time meant i was unable to get vaccinated at all). I know that this is a controversial topic as even my midwife said she cant tell me anything about the vaccine either way. I have been reading scientific reports saying that there is a tiny increase chance of miscarriages, stillborn and preterm labour. I am overall healthy except from Gilberts syndrome (liver enzyme issue) and iron deficiency in pregnancy. I feel like i want to make sure my baby will be safe since cases are rising but i have also seen the other side of the vaccine as it causing hormone issues which affected women's periods etc. Is the jab for pregnant women different to the normal one? Is it truly safe and/ or truly worth it? Thank you ❤️

It’s the same jab as for those who aren’t pregnant.

Look up the stats for babies that are miscarried, stillborn or terminated for medical reasons as a result of the mother having a fever and being ill in pregnancy. Those scientific reports might reassure you that the vaccine is the comparatively safer option.

Thank you @FuzzyWolfi am seriously considering getting it because of exactly that reason, I'm worried i react badly to it since I've never had it before to compare.

The effects of Covid whilist pregnant are much worse than feeling a bit unwell, fatigued etc (common reactions). If you want more information talk to your GP, there's good resources on the NHS website as well.

A midwife isn't the most qualified person to ask on this, and data can be skewered without the right context to understand it in. It is safe but covid whilst pregnant can seriously impact your baby. If you have questions talk to experts, don't just take anyone online word for it.

I had the vaccine last year and I did lose that pregnancy but it was measuring 10 days behind before I had it. I went on to conceive again a month later and it didn't impact that pregnancy

It's been given to pregnant women for the last 4-5 years and with a lot of scrutiny. They are really careful with vaccines in pregnancy and they would pull it if it was causing increased risks. Bear in mind that up to 25% of pregnancies end in miscarriage. My nan had a miscarriage as did my mother, both my sisters and one of my cousins had over 10. There will be women that have a negative outcome after having the covid vaccines but that's not the same as the covid vaccine causing the negative outcome.

I think anyone (pregnant or not), who is considering having the vaccine should seriously revise all of the updated info regarding the potential dangers and side effects. There is no way in the world I would have that jab, especially when pregnant. Please be fully informed before making a decision.

I had the vaccine in early pregnancy when it was quite new and also had a miscarriage. Was measuring 2 weeks behind then lost the baby but this was after the vaccine I'd had a healthy early scan before this. IV never had it in pregnancy since. Not saying it caused it but it just wasn't worth the risk for me.

Correlation isn't causation. I'm very sorry you had a miscarriage but it likely would have happened even if you didn't have the vaccine.

There are other factors which may have happened during that time, you mentioned you were already measuring behind and that likely had more of an impact, but like most miscarriages, it was likely random.

Just because they happened in close timing doesn't mean they had anything to do with each other. You aren't in a controlled study environment etc, so you cannot certify a link at all. Again sorry for your miscarriage, I hope your doing well.

I haemorrhaged for two days after getting the Covid vaccine in 2022. I think you would be mad to get it.

Completely agree. Not a chance in hell I'd take it.

I had a booster when I was pregnant . It was early vaccine days and I freaked out. Me and baby were both fine. when I went, I was due to have the Medurna (?) vaccine but I told the dispenser I was pregnant (it was at the vaccine stations). He disappeared and came back with Pfizer, he told me it was safer in pregnancy or more tested on.

Covid was rife though.

In 2024 I took the vaccine when I was 12 weeks pregnant, started bleeding after 2-3 days and then ended up with TFMR at around 23 weeks. I don’t know if vaccine caused it but my scan was perfectly fine at 12 weeks.

I am early pregnant again and scared of taking it again.
