How much weight did you gain throughout your pregnancy?

I’d be really grateful if you could share if you feel comfortable enough.
How much weight did you gain in total, how easy was it to lose afterwards? Is it possible to get back to your pre-pregnancy size?

I gained 10 kg each pregnancy, went from 54 to 64 kg. Was back to pre pregnancy weight by 3 months each time.

Stickthatupyourdojo · 16/10/2025 21:33

I put on 50% of my starting weight with my eldest, went from 9 stone to 13.5 the day I had him. Turns out some of it was because I was a complete water balloon which didn’t get picked up until my waters went (and caused complications). Most of the weight came off quickly after though
, lots of sweating which was nice 😩 until Covid happened and I ate everything. I put on a lot less with my youngest, but that was more to do with me already being an awful lot heavier due to Covid munching.

mzpq · 16/10/2025 21:34

All three babies were just under 7lb and I gained around 10lb with each of them.

Back to pre-pregnancy weight within a week each time.

It was just how it was and nothing I did or didn't do on purpose.

blankcanvas3 · 16/10/2025 21:36

16lb first time, 9lb second time, lost 2lb last time (terrible sickness)

AnonKat · 16/10/2025 21:37

Im 32 weeks and ive gained 3kg. But im very overweight anyway. Hoping to get healthier when baby arrives.

Supperlite · 16/10/2025 21:37

Gained 20kg with baby 1, over 4 of which was baby! Back to pre pregnancy weight after a year, with breastfeeding. I ate a lot more in pregnancy 2 because of nausea. I didn’t weight myself pre-birth but I’m month 5 post natal and still 13kg over prepregnancy weight even with bfeeding. My plan is to focus on healing currently (as pregnancy is simply horrendous for me) and tackle the weight after year 1.

ZippyBlueViper · 16/10/2025 21:37

I gained a lot.
I went from 57kg to 94kg! So over 5 stone!! Its my 3rd baby and i never gained that much with my other two. I was made to feel awful during my pregnancy, a lot of people made comments about how big i was and how they couldn't believe just how much weight i had put on etc etc. It made me so miserable.
Anyway my baby is 11 weeks old and I'm down to 60kg only 3 to go until I'm back to pre pregnancy weight.
Your body does what it needs to do. My advice to any pregnant woman would be do not worry about your weight. Pregnancy is a beautiful thing regardless of how much weight you do or don't gain. Enjoy your pregnancy and embrace your changing body focus on being happy that is the main thing.

With the first, I was so happy to be pregnant after several years ttc and a miscarriage that I was oblivious to the weight gain - despite my mum trying to stage an intervention to talk to me about it 😬. I was oblivious until my 8 weight post partum check up when I realised I weighed 4.5 stone more than normal… I’m normally around 8.5 stone so it was a lot. It did not fall off… but I ate healthily and lightly - one bit of wholemeal toast rather than two bits of white, no butter, etc, - and it came off over a year. Second time around, I was more conscious of what I ate and put on a reasonable amount (no idea what but I kept an eye on it and it was around the what you’re meant to gain level) and then lost it after birth just living normally with two small kids. For what it’s worth, breast fed with both - no idea if that made any difference - people kept telling me the weight would melt away with that first time around but given my weight gain it didn’t 😂

Moomin37 · 16/10/2025 21:38

I think it was about 2.2 kg as I felt very sick a lot of the time so struggled to eat.

Jollyjoy · 16/10/2025 21:52

About 4 stone both times! First time lost relatively easily, second time a bit harder.

Daisy03 · 16/10/2025 21:59

5 stones. I always felt nauseous and was craving carbs yet never actually sick. I was also very fit and training for a half marathon when I got pregnant and had to completely stop exercise also.
lost 4 stones easily in about a year, the last stone took maybe another 6 months.

Cornishmumofone · 17/10/2025 08:06

I gained 3kg/6-7lb. I was quite slim and no one could tell I was pregnant. I weighed less than my start weight after I gave birth… but 9 years on and I’m considerably larger.

CheeseWisely · 17/10/2025 08:12

About 10kg I think and lost it pretty quickly. 3kg of it was DS. Back to my pre-pregnancy clothes size within a couple of months aside from a few items where my shape has changed (high waisted stuff mostly, my waist is thicker than it was, but then I also don’t run as regularly as I did, which probably contributes to that).

Cheezewizz · 17/10/2025 19:29

First I gained loads guessing 4/5 stone and second I gained 1stone

chocolateychurros · 17/10/2025 21:23

Thank you to all you lovely mums for sharing, I read all of your responses and wow, The results are so varied. I wonder how big of a roll genetics have to play.

I had an unusual situation, dye to vomiting so much I was 85kg pre pregnancy and 84kg full term. So after birth I was around 81kg but then because I vomited and hadn’t eaten for 9 months I ate everything and went back upto 86kg 😂

Threadcounting · 17/10/2025 21:28

I gained one stone and 2lb with both of mine and then almost immediately after birth was a good few pounds under my pre pregnancy weight so suggests about 1.5 stone was attributable to the baby etc

LindorDoubleChoc · 17/10/2025 21:37

About 20 to 25lb both pregnancies. I didn't lose it easily, my body is programmed to cling on to every ounce of fat like it is vital.

HolyMerlot · 17/10/2025 21:51

9 stone before pregnancy.
10 stone 2lbs the day I went into labour (41 weeks).
8lb 9oz baby.
8 stone 10lbs at 1 week pp.
Currently down to 8 stone at 10 weeks pp.
Trying to eat like a horse but the weight has been falling off, GP and HV think it must be because I’m EBF, had my thyroid checked. 🤷🏻‍♀️
Back in all of my pre-pregnancy clothes.
Some think it’s a nice problem to have but it plays on your mind when you’re not actively trying to lose weight and need to maintain a supply for BF!

EdithStourton · 17/10/2025 21:58

I gained between a stone and a stone and a half with each of mine.

They all weighed round the 9lb mark, so by the time I'd dropped baby, waters and placenta, that was almost a stone gone (baby 9lb, placenta 1.5lb, waters about 2lb). Most of the rest was in the extra blood volume of pregnancy and majorly enlarged boobs. I EBF so any fat I'd gained was burned off that way within a few months.

All that said, I never regained the completely flat stomach I had pre-DC.

EdithStourton · 17/10/2025 22:00

@HolyMerlot just keep eating and enjoy it while you can!
The day will come when you can no longer justify seconds of Sunday roast...

ladygindiva · 17/10/2025 22:39

First one about 3.5 stone. I was v slim , possibly underweight. Went from 7.5 to 11 stone. Lost it all quickly. Put less on the second time, although it was twins. I was encouraged not to worry about it, so I didn't

Yesitsalot · 17/10/2025 22:41

4 stone with each baby. Had HG as well so all the weight went on after 20 weeks 😱

PennyPugwash · 17/10/2025 22:53

4 stone (twin pregnancy)
