90th centile baby

Anyone been told they are having a big baby but not had a big baby? IV been told he's on 90th centile but IV never had a big baby before all mine have been no bigger than 7'7. I'm active and have no GD. I'm not bothered about if he is big as long as he's healthy but just curious about the accuracy

I was told my first was measuring over 90th centile and was sent for the GD test. She was born 7lb2oz at 41 weeks so not big at all. My baby was very enagaged very early so difficult to get good head measurements of which could have affected it.

I was told I was going to have an ‘average’ baby and ended up with a 90th centile one 😁. Healthy and normal sugar

I was told my baby was on the 90th centile and would be between 9-10lbs (depending on when he was born). He was born at 39+3 weeks and weighed 7lbs 15oz (a few ozs bigger than my first) which put him on the 50th centile. Apparently the scans are more accurate for measuring smaller babies!

My friend was told hers was on the 95th centile and he was on the 20th… I could go on!

37 weeks today here. My last fundal height measurement put baby at 90th centile too. If I told people that they would never believe me, everyone thinks I look small. I had a growth scan at 35 weeks which seemed to be based on much more accurate measurements and the midwife didn’t say the baby was particularly big.

I think fundal height is meant to just be a guide. Even the midwife who just measured me said it was probably because baby was in a different position or because she’s a new person measuring there’s a bit of variation.

i was told 99th centile. They told me 10 pounder and he was 8 pounds exactly.

SnacklessWonder · 16/10/2025 18:21

Not strictly what you're asking but I was told I had a large baby from 20 weeks so had a lot of growth scans. No GD.

I was induced at 38 weeks at which point they expected him to be about 8lb 7lb (big for me, I am tiny). He was actually 9lb 11oz and on the 99.6th centile - which necessitated lots of blood sugar level tests after birth etc but all was okay, he's just a chunk. So the growth scans were wrong, but the other way from what most other people say!

6 years later and he's still on 90th centile which apparently is almost overweight according to the school checks - I'd argue he's dropped a bit, he's doing fine!

Cornishmumofone · 16/10/2025 19:05

I was told I’d have a baby that would be about 8lb 6oz. She arrived at 42 weeks and was 6lb 4oz. It’s usually not very accurate

CatchHimDerry · 16/10/2025 19:05

Mine was accurate, came out at 9lb 1 but he was 12 days late. I had taken all first size clothes and nothing fitted 😂

Second is also measuring big so will see what she ends up as

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 16/10/2025 21:54

MW told me DS would be well over 10lb. He was 7lb 7oz.

Bluffingwithmymuffin · 16/10/2025 22:26

Fundal height measurements are wildly inaccurate. I have a short torso so had a massive bump with my first from about 20 weeks. I was told baby would be large, likely around 9lb - he was born 6lb7oz!

Anthempart2 · 16/10/2025 22:28

I was told DS was a whopper, 99th centile and they wanted him inducing at 37 weeks exactly… held off until 38 weeks (other reasons at play) he was 7lb13

dontcomeatme · 16/10/2025 22:31

Mine was spot on. First and second pregnancies my DC were predicted over 99centile. First was 9lb 6oz and second was 10lb 7oz, both before 40 weeks. Both healthy x

LeanToWhatToDo · 16/10/2025 22:32

Had mine in 2010 so before they did the final scan they do these days. Told normal all through although they assumed she was coming weeks earlier than she did, I think now because she was so big they assumed she was older. 40 + 1 and 10.1Ib. Was meant to be having a home birth, but thankfully that didn't happen as I had an emergency c-section in the end.

TheWibble · 16/10/2025 22:36

I was told my baby was going to be at least 9lb. She was actually 6lb 5oz and 25th centile. I don't know how they can get it so wrong, as i know many other mum's who have similar stories.

Jollyjoy · 16/10/2025 22:43

I was not told anything about my baby being an unusual
size, although I did have extra growth scans because I was measuring big. She was 10lb 5 and it was a very easy labour compared to my first 8lber!
