Gallbladder issues in pregnancy

Hi
Just wondering whether anyone has had a similar experience and what you did to manage / treat it.

I am now 20 weeks pregnant and my gallbladder started to act up around 15 weeks. I can "feel" my gallbladder probably about 70% of the day, everyday, ranging from mild tingling to very uncomfortable, but never really painful. The sensation is definitely more severe after meals, whether I'm eating fatty foods or not. I had the same thing in my first pregnancy. At the time my doctor ordered an ultrasound to check for gallstones, but didn't do anything more when they could not find any gallstones.

Now I am wondering whether to raise it again with my doctor or just to live with it.

Gallbladder attacks are agony. I would put it up there with labour if not worse. If it’s not that painful I would assume it’s not gallstones. Although if it is it will get to the point where you cannot live with it so probably worth checking with a doctor again. I had horrendous gallstones with my 2nd DC and which ended with me having to be induced over 2 weeks early so I could take heavy duty painkillers as we could not keep the pain under control whilst pregnant. I really hope for your sake it’s not gallstones. I would not wish that pain on my worst enemy

I would ask for a new ultrasound...

I ended up having emergency surgery to remove my gallbladder at 21 weeks - the pain is absolute hell!

Thanks for the advice! It sounds like you both had it really rough. Glad it ended ok. I'll definitely take it up with my Doctor to make sure it's not gallstones.
