Hi,

I am due my second baby next year. My children will have a 20 month age gap, I would like a side by side pram but one that has a carrycot at first for a new born which then turns into a twin pushchair. Can anyone recommend any please?

Depending on budget the Bugaboo Donkey.

I loved our Mountain Buggy duet. Definitely get a side by side. Much better than the one on top option.

Bellatrixxx · 12/10/2025 19:22

I had mountain duet and now I have out n about nipper - both great (and cater for kids up to about 4 years which surprisingly loads don’t ie only go up to a weight of about 2 years) and echo pp in that its good to have them side by side so you can give them equal attention. Prefer the nipper now as its much lighter than the mountain.

DeliciouslyBaked · 12/10/2025 19:23

Out n about nipper. Lots of people on the OnA FB group have been through loads of different double buggies and the general theme seems to be OnA or Mountain Buggy are the best. MB has a lower weight limit though so depends on whether your eldest is very high centiles.

If you use public transport, MB is the narrowest double out there.

Mountain buggy duet. Saying that I mostly used (a) littlest in baby carrier and eldest in his yoyo and (b) both in little yo-yos with plastic attachments to join them up when needed. But the pointing buggy duet is the best for longer trips where you need to be able to keep them contained and get around as it fits through doors / is easy to push.

I had the city select and really liked it.

Autumn1990 · 12/10/2025 19:45

City mini was great

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 12/10/2025 20:02

Not the Donkey it’s an absolute PITA. Baby Jogger cut mini twin was brilliant.

Found out today i’m due my 4th baby!!! My other 3 children all have a 5 year gap between each of them so prams have never been an issue before however my youngest will be two in june and this baby will be due early September so I’m probably going to need a double or would i get away with just using a buggy board for him???
Has anyone been in this position what did you do/would you recommend and also what pram would you recommend if recommending a double pram.
currently in utter shock

SalmonOnFinnCrisp · 01/01/2026 10:42

Another vote for the donkey

Kiki25 · 01/01/2026 13:56

I have the bugaboo fox 5 at the moment and it’s my favourite pram yet however i am thinking more along the lines of practically and space

MauriceTheMussel · 01/01/2026 15:10

I’ve got the Bugaboo Donkey 5. It’s big, but you are carrying two kids sooo…

I didn’t at all like the idea of those double decker prams with one kid basically tasting the floor

Double buggy would be my recommendation. My eldest was 2 in April and my yongest arrived beginning of September. My eldest was already out of her single pushchair before the baby arrived so I though a buggy board would be fine but it was an absolutely PITA because although she was more than capable of walking you dont have enough eyes and hands to keep hold of the eldest whilst sorting the baby or maybe my daughter just couldnt be trusted not to wander/be distracted. The double buggy meant she was strapped in and in a fixed place for safety. She was allowed tp get out and walk as usual when it was safe for her to do so and the extra seat was useful for storage when she didnt need it!

@Kiki25 very much agree with @WithOneLook I also have a 2.5 Yr old and am expecting a baby soon. You need a double buggy not just a buggy board! My 2 Yr old walks very nicely for quite good distances but they do tend to run off and be silly and have no road awareness at that age. She does tend to stop walking randomly to stare at stuff too. I can't even imagine trying to manage a buggy and her walking. Iv just bought the icandy peach 7 double buggy. What I like about it is that it converts from one to two seats. So this means I can take the baby out in a single buggy while my toddler is at nursery. And then convert it into a double buggy for outings for both. It also has an integrated buggy board for when she's a bit older. The bugaboo donkey is very wide, just to be aware if you live in a flat or whatever it's not the most practical (I looked into this my friend has one) it also doesn't convert black and forth single to double as smoothly as the icandy double buggies.

Wherestheteenguide · 01/01/2026 22:22

Out n about nipper if they still do them. Easy enough to push and steer one handed, folded down almost flat in car and used to be one of the narrowest so good with doorways. Not great for seeing baby as it faces away and not great storage.

Congratulations!!

I have three, with a 24m gap and then a 22m gap. I’ve had no need for a double - just used a buggy board or pram plus sling. And I don’t drive, so that combo has been fine walking for miles!

Pitterpatter87 · 01/01/2026 22:32

Bugaboo donkey a million gazillion per cent don’t waste time looking at any other option honestly it was the perfect pram for my two who had similar age gap. I got great bargain 2nd hand one on Facebook

User415373 · 01/01/2026 22:35

Out and about nipper. So easy to push, I'd push mine with one hand and a coffee in the other, fits through doors etc. We still use it now kids are 4 and 3!
When the youngest was tiny I often had him in a sling so I'd just use the other side for bags etc. I did have the newborn lay flat insert as well (a generic one, not out and about brand). I find the storage good and pack it full.
We bought ours second hand for £120 and will probably be able to sell it for £100! Best buy ever.
