Missed miscarriage worry

I am almost 6 weeks and 4 days ago I had one incidence of blood only when I wiped followed by very light, brown discharge which tailed off within 24 hours. This is an IVF pregnancy. My clinic said there is no concern but I have been reading and am really worried that this one off could signal a missed miscarriage. I have 10 more days to wait until my first ultrasound and am so scared. Does anyone have any positive stories after one-off incident like that? x

I had brown spotting from the day before my IVF test day, until I was 8 weeks pregnant, I was so anxious! I then had it again at 14 weeks, I'm now almost 22 and everything has been fine so far thankfully.

I had a scan at 6+1 which confirmed all OK with the baby and that I had a subchorionic haematoma, very common in ivf pregnancies and caused various bouts of bleeding including some terrifying bright red bursts. Bleeding can mean not much at all esp if brown and not painful but unfortunately until you get a scan there's no definitive answers!

Have you had your progesterone tested, presumably you're on some but might be worth checking levels in case needs to be higher? Would you be able to bring your ultrasound forwards for peace of mind as well? I know they don't want to do it too early but with ivf at least the dates are clear!

Wishing you the best of luck!

Thank you so much for your message. I think it just scared me as it was one off! My clinic won’t bring the scan forward as they say it would be too early to see anything. I’m on cyclogest and my level yesterday was 19.2 and HCG 16,454 but have read those hormones increase regardless so am just a bag of nerves and fear!! x

Currently 26w with an IVF pregnancy. I had a small amount of bleeding on and off throughout the first trimester. No subchorionic haematoma seen on any ultrasound (I think it may have been related to cervix irritation but who knows). I read a few scientific articles which basically said unless the bleeding was heavy or accompanied by cramping your miscarriage risk was basically the same as any other pregnancy. Hope everything goes well for you at the scan - it’s a horrible limbo time to be in xx

Thank you for your message! Was yours all brown? My first 2 wipes were red (like the start of a period) and then brown after that x

Mostly fresh red blood and the occasional small clot - would happen for 2 days then stop for 2 days then repeat for weeks! Most papers defined light bleeding as less than your period if that help!

I don’t know the in and outs of scan safety if you have them regularly but could you just get an internal ultrasound at a private clinic for reassurance? I definitely saw a heartbeat at 6 weeks when I had one for my second- it was NHS because I had significant bleeding but all was fine. If you have one early next week I would surprised if it’s too early- I have a retroverted uterus which apparently makes it harder to see and was okay although I know every situation is different. @

I've not had IVF but I've certainly had miscarriages.

I had a pregnancy many years ago where there was a small amount of bleeding at about 6 weeks. It went on for a week.

She's an adult now! So it can very often be absolutely fine to have a bleed.

I do hope that everything is okay with you. Yes, as PP suggested, how about an early private scan?

Orangewillow · 11/10/2025 13:26

Agreed on scan timings, 6 weeks can be early enough to see a heartbeat (I have at 6+1 and 6+2) but 7 weeks generally safe if you wanted to get a private scan before your clinic will do it. There's no issue having multiple ultrasounds either

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 18/10/2025 11:20

How are you @NewhereN
Did you have a scan?

NewhereN · 18/10/2025 11:21

@TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne I did! I got one at 6w1d at my early pregnancy unit and we saw a little heartbeat ❤️❤️
