I’m a FTM and due to be induced tomorrow at 41 weeks. I’d love to hear of any positive induction stories from you lovely ladies as I feel there is such a stigma attached to them!

I was induced at 40+4 but granted it was my third baby although I had a 10 year age gap!

Wasnt very dilated or much going on, had a pessary at 10:30pm as they couldn’t break my waters and was told that could last 24 hours, my waters went at 12:30pm and baby was born at 2am.

Luckily a very quick process without much intervention.

Best of luck to you

I was induced at 40+6 with reduced movements. Sweep had done nothing two days before. Pessary inserted at 1.20pm and baby born following morning at 1.20am. Active labour from 10pm. Amazing birth, relatively quick, no pain relief and no interventions despite back to back baby. I had such a positive induction.

I was induced with the balloon when she inserted it she broke my waters so I didn’t need the balloon afterall lol I had the hormone drip as was not progressing unfortunately baby went into fetal destress due to the drip but all was positive as had a emergency c section and all went smoothly. It’s not all bad some baby’s cope well with induction some don’t. I would defo be induced again if I needed to. I didn’t find anything distressing even when baby was in destress the care team looked after me and I felt reassured everything would be ok and it was !! X

I was induced at 42 weeks. Waters broken manually, contractions started immediately, baby was out 2 hours later.

I was induced last month.
I had a sweep at 36+6 which turned the sporadic contractions I had been having for the previous few weeks more regular.
I was going to be induced that day but there were no beds on the induction ward. I was sent home for the night and I was phoned the next morning to say there would be a bed for me at 3pm so I went in for that time.
I had a quick labour with my daughter so they didn't want to start the induction until they could guarantee that there would be a delivery room and midwife available once I was in established labour. They had me on the monitor for a while to see if I would go into labour naturally as I was having regular contractions although this has been the case since 34 weeks due to an irritable uterus.
In the end they decided I needed inducing so they insert the pessetry at 8pm. At 12 pm they removed it as I was at risk of being hyper stimulating and was now in labour. I had a couple of doses of paracetamol during this time and when that was not enough they moved me to the birthing room and I started on gas and air. Labour progressed well whilst I was on my feet but slowed when I had to lie down to sleep. I had become very unwell in pregnancy one of the symptoms was extreme fatigue where I couldn't stay awake for more than an hour or so without napping so I had to have frequent naps through labour due to this. At about 8 am I was 6 cm with bulging waters and it was looking like it was progressing well. During the next 4h however I started to tire and now didn't have the energy to stand so I had to lie down all the time and labour went backwards. At the next exam I was 5 cm and there was no longer enough pressure on my waters for them to break so they made the decision to break my waters. This accelerated my labour and I went from 5 to 8 cm in about 40 minutes and in another 40 minutes baby was born. He did go into distress during this time and there was a period of time where they were concerned about his wellbeing as they were losing his heartbeat with each contraction but with a midwife chasing him into my pelvis with the monitor on each contraction they could see he was recovering ok after the contractions. He was ok after delivery and I just had a graze and didn't need any stitches.
In labour I only had paracetamol during the induction process, gas and air through the labour. After birth I had some paracetamol and ibuprofen immediately afterwards but then nothing after that. I was up and mobile immediately afterwards.

Had I not been unwell and able to stay on my feet I wouldn't have needed my waters breaking from a labour perspective my body justed needed a nudge to go into labour.

They are planning to break my water tomorrow (40+5). It’s my first baby and the trust’s policy is to immediately put me on a drip and give epidural.

I’m quite nervous. I’ve been dilating for about 2 weeks and in the last two days I feel like things have started progressing? Pain radiating from thigh/back to bump, but no time pattern.

I’m wondering if I can ask to stick it out until Monday to see if something happens itself? I’d be 41+1.

I had an appointment to be induced at 41 weeks. I was terrified. I went into labour at 11pm the night before and babe was safely out by 1.30am! Hope the same happens for you..

Sunflower3000 · 09/10/2025 21:51

Remember you can refuse induction if you want to - I know they strongly recommend it now at 41 weeks, but you definitely don’t have to be induced. When I had my first DC 5 years ago, I went into labour naturally at 41+3, because the guidelines were different and they wouldn’t have pushed for induction until 42 weeks at my hospital trust. It’s always your choice. (Although I may well choose induction this time for number 3, as my second DC birth was super fast and I don’t want to race to the hospital again!)

I’m currently being induced, I have the balloon in at the moment and sitting at home, this is my first baby so unsure what is a contraction and what is just discomfort from the balloon! Getting the balloon in was fine though, currently having pains every 6ish minutes?? Then it goes, have to go back to the hospital at 3am to get the balloon out (unless it’s fallen out by then), so far it’s been okay though!

Insist on a scan so you can check the actual position of the baby.
I was scheduled for induction at 42 weeks and the very young female doctor told me that as she could feel the baby's feet up at the top of the womb, his head "must be engaged" - I didn't feel any engagement downstairs so I insisted on a scan despite her protestations that I was being difficult - I was afraid as it was my first child and I was nearly 40. It turned out that my baby was frank breech (bum facing vagina) and there was no room to turn him (thankfully). The C-section went very well - longer recuperation time obviously but baby was safe and so was I. He was 9lb and looked 2-3 months old when he arrived.
Best decision I ever made.
Trust your instinct every time.
