With my first DS my waters broke and I went into labour. He was born 17 hours later and I didn't see a show.
Am 39 weeks with my second DC. The baby has been deeply engaged for at least three weeks which apparently is very unusual with a second one - the MW said that she didn't know how I was keeping it in !!!
This morning I had what I assume is a show - browny, creamy stuff in my knickers (sorry TMI). I had a shower and now there is more there. I know that lots of people have shows and don't give birth till weeks later but as the baby is so low is there more chance that this means that labour could start quite soon ?
I am having a bit of a panic cos my DP is an hour and a half away, my DS is at school and I am half an hour away from the hospital. I don't want to make DP come home to sit and stare at me all day but likewise I don't want him to miss it.
Any advice would be great.

Just bumping really as have no real advice but don't want you to be at home worrying on your own. I didn't see the show for my second but for my first baby it went about 36 hours before labour started. The fact that you are so engaged would make me a bit stressed however. How about ringing your dh and saying, this has happened, be prepared. At least then you have done something

You can continue to have a show some days before labour starts. If you are not having regular contractions and your waters are intact then I wouldn't worry too much at the moment. Yes your baby is deeply engaged but all the show means is that your cervix is starting to soften and this can occur days before labour starts.

oh and by the way, you're not hopeless!!

Thanks Sybil. I have called him and he is on red alert !! I rang my MW this morning as well and she said that sometimes it can be weeks but yesterday she had a lady that had her show in the morning and gave birth in the afternoon . So none the wiser really.

No way are you hopeless.

I had a show with baby no. 2 at 36 weeks and a bleed so I ended up staying the night in hospital - but I had a straightforward homebirth 3 weeks later so it doesn't mean you are def having a baby today.

But it is one of 'the signs' so good news things are happening - but do ot panic - let your midwife, dh etc. know but unles you get contractions I woldn't panic just yet. Good luck

I will probably start a thread just like this one in Oct when I am due - doesn't matter how many you have ad each birth is so different!

Don't panic. At this stage it could mean labour is imminent - within 24hrs normally, but just see how things go. Take it easy and I wouldnt worry about calling your DH just yet.

xx
