Placenta previa/low lying placenta at 32+ weeks.. please share your experiences?

I was told I have complete PP at 22 weeks - posterior placenta. I have had no bleeding or issues so far (touch wood!). I had my 32 week scan last week, and placenta is no longer completely covering, it is approx 1cm away and needs to be 2cm away for vaginal delivery.

Did anyone have a similar experience and did your placenta move that extra cm? Hospital don’t seem to want to give me much, other than telling me the obvious - that I must have a section if it doesn’t move (wouldn’t object but I’d really like to have vaginal if possible). I have consultant rescan at 35 weeks where they may do an internal scan too.

thanks in advance for sharing any experiences!

I had this with my first. I went back for another scan and it had moved. But… I ended having an emergency c section anyway. Point is, with having children you have to prepare yourself for the unexpected. I remember receiving the news that it had moved. I was so so relieved. But it didn’t go that way. I’m here, he is here - all the rest ends up fading away.

I only had a low lying placenta (not fully covering just close) and still had a massive bleed at 34 weeks resulting in an emergency C-section. Consultant kept telling me it might still move - obviously didn't. I had no warning signs, no pain, it happened so quick. I was alone as husband was out and there were no ambulances so had to get an Uber to the hospital. I would have someone with you at all times, have a hospital bag ready and means of getting to a hospital quick. Sorry it's not more positive but I have to be realistic, and DS arrived safe and well despite all of that!

Thanks both!

i had an EmCS with my daughter 4 years ago. Failure to progress in the first stage. Something that has mentally affected me ever since and I’m currently in therapy for now I’m pregnant again. The news of placenta previa made me spiral - I know that if a section is required, it’s required.. but a positive birth experience really means a lot to me and I’m trying my best, with all the support I’ve been given, to help myself.

I spiralled a little when I found out the complete previa wouldn’t move. The team at my maternity hospital was incredible in talking me through things. The main thing is to be prepared early with your hospital bag, I rested a lot (had two other children, so not always possible!) and don’t go too far from your hospital. I was booked in for a section at 38 weeks. Had a bleed at 35, spent 11 (very restful!) days in hospital being very well fed and taken care of and baby was born by section as close to 37 weeks as we could get. All was well! It was 2021 so I could only see my other children on the hospital steps, but we honestly got through it all fine!

Mine moved but the margin was not sufficient and I also had vasa previa. I was in hospital from 35 weeks, had the baby by section at 36 w and he was fine. I had time to get used to the idea of everything and a tour of the NICU etc. in advance so with time I adjusted to the idea. The birth experience itself was very controlled and positive, honestly better than the natural birth of my first.

I've had both. A low placenta that moved in time and then PP that didn't and had an elective c-section which was absolutely fine. It will be what it will be so try not to worry. I had to stay in hospital nearer to the time in case I went into labour. You will be closely monitored and well taken care of either way x
