Disappeared flutters (16 weeks pregnant)

hovebaby99 · 23/09/2025 03:17

I have been feeling tiny little flutters from 13 weeks, maybe every other day or so. I hit 16 weeks and haven’t felt anything for nearly a week (17 weeks on Friday) I had my (disappointing 16 week midwife appointment) where I thought we would be checking the heartbeat but she said it was still to early to hear it…
Should I be worried? Do they know something I don’t ?

Thank you in advance xx

Hmmm most likely all is well but changes in movement should be checked. I’d get this checked asap.

There's truly nothing that can be done at this very early stage.

@hovebaby99 if your midwife had any doubts about the viability of your pregnancy she would have told you.
You'll hear the baby's heartbeat at your next appointment.

It's still very early days. You can't count kicks yet - your baby's only a couple of inches long.

hovebaby99 · 23/09/2025 03:33

I’m sure everything’s fine - I’ve just booked another early scan tomorrow not sure I can wait 4 weeks!

Of course you can’t do anything at this stage but that doesn’t mean OP should ignore something she’s worried about. Most likely everything is fine but why should OP be worried and anxious about it in the meantime?

Also, a Doppler can reliably be used at 16 weeks and should have been used if the OP wanted it.

pepperminticecream · 23/09/2025 04:17

Also just to reassure you,OP. I went in multiple times to get heartbeat checks and everyone was very welcoming and happy to do provide checks when I was worried (and everything was fine).

You'll not feel routine movement until around 24 weeks and midwives wont listen to the heartbeat until 25 weeks now incase they cant find it due to baby still being so small and not being able to find their positioning, it can scare new mums. So they changed it to 25 weeks.

I never really felt massive movements. I felt little flutters but that could have still been gas and bloating😅
Now im 32 weeks im waking up to my baby holding a baseball bat acting like my bladder is his piñata.

It’ll differ from Trust to Trust as I went for my 16 week appointment last week (first time mum) and they listened to the heartbeat in mine.

I had my 16 week check last week and the mw listened to heart and we heard it clearly . She should have offered u this.

Pennyroses · 23/09/2025 11:04

I'm worried about this too. I was feeling obvious flutters from 13 weeks but now at 16 it's very few and far between. Doesn't help that I also had a huge bump starting and that seems to have gone down (I'm guessing it was in fact a lot of bloating that has now settled!). I'm so anxious as I had a previous late loss and hate this in between stage 😩 I've booked a private scan for Saturday and I have my midwife appointment next Monday but it doesn't stop me feeling really anxious right now! Sorry no advice but I'm in the same boat x

I was offered heart beat check at 16 weeks, which they found. I also have felt movement since 16/17 weeks, now 22 and very regular. Everyone is different.

The advice is if you are ever concerned about your pregnancy wether that be changes in movements or ANYTHING that you’re worried about you can phone triage and get checked.

I had regular movements from 16 weeks and at 20 weeks they stopped. Triage saw me straight away and everyone was very kind to me and luckily we found baby hiding towards my back on ultrasound.

I’ve had a previous loss. Some people would rather question how they’re feeling and can’t simply wait 2-4 weeks for another midwife appointment to check on their baby.

Everyone is so different. OP if you are worried you need to speak to someone

Although Doppler use seems to vary from trust to trust. My MW in NW London didn’t use it at 16 weeks back in 2015, but they did in both my pregnancies in Buckinghamshire.

curliegirlie · 23/09/2025 14:42

And regarding movements, I’m 22 weeks tomorrow and I think I’ve only just been able to feel the first little squirms in the past week. This is my first one with a posterior placenta, so it’s all very novel! Good luck with your scan - hope it reassures you!

I've been exactly the same and really anxious after a previous mmc. I had my 16 week midwife appointment and I asked her if they listen to the heartbeat because I had seen some things online that said it could be too early to detect. My midwife said its not standard procedure anymore but she could normally find it, so she did it for me to put my mind at ease!
She did say to try not to worry until around the 20 week mark and then it might still not be regular until around 24 weeks.

If she'd not found the heartbeat for me I was definitely going to book a private scan to make sure everything was okay

It makes me nervous! I did go for a private scan this afternoon and everything is absolutely fine! Heard the heartbeat loud and clear, and baby was moving loads. I was also told I have an anterior placenta so v normal to not feel anything. He said the baby would have to really kick you to feel it!
Would really recommend a private one for the reassurance!
