Mums who are Rh negative

I've never been told by midwife's/professionals when to worry about needing a anti d. This is my third pregnancy. .

My toddler is ruthless lol. He sleep rubbish at the moment so I do wake up with a foot in my back or something. I do always have the duvet padded up against me. Or if I remember, a pillow.

He was pushing his feet into my back this morning but like I said I had the duvet behind me so I don't think he even kicked me on my skin.

When do you actually worry you need to call triage? Is it a fall or car crash? Where the blood can mix?

Silly question, thank you ❤️

If you are worried, you can always ring and ask your midwife for advice. Mine suggested it was falls, significant bumps, anything that might cause a bruise or bleeding. I actually slipped down the stairs at 14w and didnt need anti-D because I didnt land on my bump, I landed on my bum. So that might give you an idea. But noone will mind if you ring the triage line to double check. In your case you describe, I don't think i would have been worried though.

How far along are you? Does your trust do the fetal blood test at 16w? Ours did and it turns out both my DDs were predicted to be rh neg as well anyway, so I didnt need to worry about anti-d in the end.

I'm rhesus negative and was told any bleeding, as well as significant knocks/bumps as PP said, but only after 12 weeks, before that it's not necessary- but check if you're worried, and I've been very vocal about being RH negative (I had a bleed at 14 weeks, they initially said they wouldn't scan me for 3 days and hadn't looked at my details to know I was Rh negative and needed a jab, I had to advocate for it!)

My midwife told me that my toddler kicking me wouldn't be enough to need anti d. I fell over in my first pregnancy but as I didn't land on my bump they said I didn't need it. I think it does need to be fairy serious trauma to your bump but give them a ring if you're worried.

Any bleeding in pregnancy is what my hospital said and I had to have it about week 14 last pregnancy x

I was in a car crash at 38 weeks and was given one just in case as the car hit directly into my door. I probably didn't really need one but my age (40) was apparently another factor.

Ring and check.
I fell off my bike at about 32 weeks with my first, I rang the midwife and they had absolutely no interest in seeing me. I landed on my head and not my bump.

Anti D has nothing to do with clotting, that’s factor VIII! Anti D is given prevent them from developing antibodies that could harm future pregnancies and cause Rhesus disease. The injection provides external antibodies that destroy any of the baby's RhD-positive red blood cells that enter the mother's bloodstream, preventing the mother's immune system from becoming sensitized and producing its own harmful antibodies.

Also depends on age of mum. I was given 1 after a car crash, even though it wasn't an especially hard crash, but being 40 the placenta can come away easier.

If the impact is enough for the placenta to come away, even a little, it can cause blood mixing.
