How to avoid finding out sex of baby?

I booked a private reassurance scan at 16 weeks pregnant (tomorrow), and am not sure I want to find out if it's a boy or girl. I'm a high risk pregnancy, so will be having regular scans from 20 weeks. Is it easy to avoid finding out the sex? Will I need to look away from the screen each time?

If you just let the sonographer know that you're not finding out the sex then they'll accommodate that (we're not finding out either)

I didn't find out the sex with either of mine. I just let the sonographer know before the start of every scan that I really didn't want to know. They usually told me to look away at the point where it might be spotted. They will have had that request before, I'm sure.

Just say you don't want to know. I have never been able to tell the sec from looking at scans even when it's been pointed out to me. So if you are not looking for it and don't know what to look for I doubt you will be able to tell.
Tehy don't normally offer to tell you the sex until 20 weeks anyway as it's very difficult to tell at 16 weeks in most cases anyway

Just say that you don't want to know and the sonographer should honour that.

(I am not an expert by there may be conditions out there which also reveal the sex of the child, though that may be only by an Amniocentesis test and not scans (e.g. Turners Syndrome, which only affects females).)

Good luck.

I had my babies in 2004 and 2006 and had all the scans (12 weeks, 20 weeks and I had one at 34 weeks with dc1). We didn't know what we were having until they were born.

I could never tell from the scans what they were (and wasn't curious) but at the 34 week scan, the sonographer had a great view of the babies face which she asked if we wanted to see, we did and he did look like (and was) a he!

With our anomaly scans we only saw the genitals when she went looking for them after we said we wanted to find out.
I didn't see anything at the growth scans, I'd say they were easier to avoid as they looked chunks of the body - head torso legs at a time so the whole body wasn't on display at one time.

Thank you for the insightful responses! I've decided to get the answer in an envelope so I have the option to change my mind later. This will be the one and only private scan I'll get, so I'll make the most of it, even if I never open that envelope x
