How thirsty is normal?

I’m 21 weeks and even before pregnancy tried to drink 2-3 litres of water a day.

Im 21 weeks and still staying very hydrated but I’ve noticed that I am often soooo thirsty despite keeping hydrated throughout the day. I tend to drink about 2 litres of water at work but then in the afternoon will suddenly go from fine to extreme thirst.

I also wake up a lot at night very thirsty.

Just wondering how normal this is? Not sure whether mention it to be midwife at all? I’m not at risk for gestational diabetes but I know extreme thirst is a symptom. How extreme is ‘extreme’? 😅

Heya currently 35 weeks as been the same from day 1. One thing I was told by a friend with 5 kids was that I may be drinking so much im flushing all my salts etc out hence still feeling thirsty.

I asked midwife and she hadn't heard of it before but said to try rehydration sachets and see. It really helped!! I used strike as they are safe for pregnancy and could take twice a day if needed. Haven't tried the other flavours but lemon one was nice enough- like a salty lemon squash. Have it in a normal sized glass and see it away then go back to water - it wasnt as nice in a big flask!!

Hi. I'm 16 weeks and some days I'm so thirsty no matter how much I drink, and get a headache. But it varies day to day. Definitely get advice if you're concerned.

Sometimes I'll add lemon juice and a pinch of sea salt to my water.

Please book an appointment with your GP/midwife asap, as thirst could be a symptom of diabetes or other conditions.

If you feel dizzy, lightheaded or otherwise unusual, please phone NHS direct ASAP.

Just checking that you are taking the prenatal vitamins & minerals?

Your GP can do a blood test, or you can have your vitamin and mineral levels checked privately if this is affordable.

I always advise people to get their thyroid function checked in pregnancy, as this is sometimes not checked, but can cause serious problems if low/high.

Also, drinking more than 500ml of coconut water for healthy adults can cause serious problems too, even though there are no warnings anywhere!

Hope all is well. xx
