Breech baby at 32 weeks

Well I have just had my feelings comfirmed, that this baby has gone breech. None of my other children have been breech and all have stayed head-down from 20 weeks.

I had a feeling it had, as I feel really full up top, and no hardness near pelvic area. With a head shape near ribs, that you can bob about abit..must not keep poking the baby in the face! poor thing!

I am another c-section waiting to happen...

Back at 36 weeks and if still breech being refered back to consultant. I am due a c-section at 41 weeks if no labour anyway..ho-hum

Do they do External Cephalic Version at your hospital? It has a good success rate. Also moxibusiton has had good results in trials. Hopefully though baby will turn as there is still time and space for it to do so!

Its really uncomfortable as well isnt it? No bladder pressure but swopped with lots of rib pressure...not sure which is worse!

ECV and moxi not really recommended with previous c/s though, sorry

I did ask the midwife if ecv was safe after a c-section she said she didnt know of any problems, but I would think there are?

Try and get hold of a copy of "Breech Birth" by Benna Waites and/or "Breech Birth: What are my options" by Jane Evans. DD was breech (and born that way in the end, at home with IMs), and I felt those books gave me a far more balanced and evidence based picture of the options than I got from anyone in the NHS.

If you want to discuss non-surgical options, you might want to make an appointment with the Head of Midwifery - some consultants can be very supportive of vaginal birth, but most seem to see breech as a "problem" best solved with a scalpel.

Fingers crossed DC turns for you.

ps - I was told the way to see if you've still got a ballotable head is to put a hand flat on your belly on either side of it and push alternatly - if you've got a head there it should swing fairly freely like the basket on a hot air balloon. Although I didn't find that out till about 39 weeks and DD had been prodded a fair amount by then and she seems fine. Not to mention all the times I bounced her off door frames...
