Rh negative

Is anyone here Rh negative?

I'm around 17 weeks pregnant and my son kicked me hard enough for me to wake up in my hip. Not my belly or back.

Do you think I need to speak to triage for an anti d injection?

Don't you get the injection after you've given birth? I'm B Rhesus negative and I'm sure I had an injection afterwards. My eldest is nearly 25 though so it's a long time ago.

Wilkolampshade · 17/09/2025 08:09

I'm RH negative. As PP says, you get the injection after giving birth. Honestly don't think a tiny baby of 17 weeks can cause any kind of internal rupturing- is that what you're worried about OP?

Lolalu09 · 17/09/2025 08:17

@BG2015 I don't think it covers you for a long period. I've been told a few months.

@Wilkolampshade Yeah I worried about mixing of blood but yeah him kicking me hard to the hip at only 17 weeks should be fine. I think baby is a lot in pelvis at this stage anyway x

You do require it for trauma during pregnancy but not sure this would count. Speak to triage to be sure.

herbalteabag · 17/09/2025 08:22

I'm A negative. I don't think you need to worry. I fell off a high stool when I was pregnant and they said everything was fine. I didn't have the injection until after my second child, presumably because my first is also rhesus negative, although they didn't tell me his blood group.

BG2015 · 17/09/2025 08:34

Bizarrely my children’s dad was also B Rhesus negative and both our children are. (As is my mum)

I gave blood for as long as I could as B Rhesus negative is one of the rarest blood groups.

(Had to stop ☹️ after breast cancer diagnosis)

Bluffingwithmymuffin · 17/09/2025 09:05

This doesn't sound like it'd be enough to cause a bleed so you should be fine. However if you are worried call your midwifery team for advice.

Usually in England, you have a blood test to check whether the baby is rhesus negative or positive. If the baby is rhesus positive you should be given anti-D at around 28 weeks and then again within 72 hours after giving birth.

Lolalu09 · 17/09/2025 09:17

Thank you guys for your reassurance.

I called them but they said due to being 17 weeks and it was my hip and baby is in pelvis they would say it's ok. Bur if I have any spotting call back.

I did have a blood test with my son and he is positive. I have also had a blood test last week with this baby but results are not back yet. Will make my life easier if the same blood type as me 🤣 I don't think it's helped I had a MMC in March so my anxiety is quite high xx

I got the anti d shot when I was pregnant I think about 24 weeks and then again once the baby was born. I had that with all my kids.

crossstitchingnana · 17/09/2025 09:27

I am Rh-ve and I had my babies over 20 years ago. I had anti D after first baby. Unfortunately it didn’t work and they found I was making antibodies at about 32 weeks in my second pregnancy. She was in hospital for a week having treatment and is now a strapping 20 year old in the middle of her degree. I am sharing this as I experienced the worse- case scenario (apparently 1% of anti d injections fail) so I was very unlucky. But no issues with my DD.

Try not to worry.

ILoveSleeping · 17/09/2025 09:28

I’m Rh negative and never been told to get checked if baby kicks too hard, only if I have a bump to my stomach or a fall etc, or any kind of bleeding/spotting during pregnancy. I got my anti D at 28 weeks and again after I’d given birth x

Timetotryagain · 17/09/2025 10:16

Do you mean the baby in your uterus kicked you or another son? If it was a toddler hard kick then i would maybe call the midwives to ask but your baby kicking in utero isnt a trauma event so doesnt need an anti d injection

RaraRachael · 17/09/2025 10:19

I'm AB rh negative.

I had to go for blood tests every week in the last 4 weeks leading up to the birth and got anit D jab once baby was born.

Lolalu09 · 17/09/2025 11:12

It was my 3 year old that kicked me on my hip. We were both asleep and it woke me up and it really hurt.

With my son I had about 5 anti D's because of knocks and a bleed.

I did call the triage and they said due to him kicking my hip and I'm 17 weeks pregnant, baby should be in pelvis so shouldn't be a problem. But if I get usual bleeding/discharge/pain gets worse to call them back. X

no, you don't, you get it at about 28 weeks

Lolalu09 · 17/09/2025 11:30

@Harrysmummy246 I got mine at 28 weeks with my son and also after birth. It was because he has positive blood. If he had negative I wouldn't of got one. X

Ah that makes sense why you were worried, i was the same in pregnancy had a few due to things like toddler bumps etc! It adds such an extra worry to pregnancy doesnt it deciding if a bump is "worth" an anti d!

Wilkolampshade · 17/09/2025 11:33

My apologies then @Harrysmummy246 and @Lolalu09 i had mine 27 years ago so memory a bit vague now.

Lolalu09 · 17/09/2025 11:36

@Timetotryagain yeah, its trying to work out do I really need to call them and get an anti d or not. It's more difficult now to just go up the hospital with no childcare etc. But thankfully it was my hip and they have advised it should be fine so I'll try not to worry xx
