I had a positive experience with an emergency c-section. Had my baby on the Thursday and was home by Saturday. I was a single parent so had to do everything myself but I managed fine.

I remember my stomach looking swollen for around a month after. The pain was well managed with painkillers which I didn’t need to take for long.

The scar is tiny. I’m really glad I had it.

I absolutely loved my calm, peaceful, controlled c section. I chose it.

I walked into the delivery room, it was like any normal day. Daughter passed straight to me. Morphine drip so no pain.

Day two was very painful I asked for tramadol. Was up and about and showered. No major issues at all felt great after a week.

Having seen so many of my friends go through horrendous vaginal births, with horrendous issues years later, I am glad I made my choice!

I had an emergency c section 17 years ago.

All was fine after. Was painful to get up and about for a few days but no long lasting effects bar the tiny scar x Also the first time you need a number 2 is a bit of a nightmare because you’re trying to push and it hurts but then it’s fine x

I had an emergency C section first time round. The recovery was absolutely fab. I was walking the prom within 4 days. Yes it hurt a bit, but I recovered SO quickly.

2nd C section was planned. It was such an amazing, calm environment and I would recommend. The recovery was definitely harder 2nd time round though. It probably took me 3-4 weeks before I could stand up without wincing in pain. It caught me a bit off guard as I healed so quickly with my first. I could still do everything for myself though. I was getting bottles for the baby, getting food for my eldest etc and taking short walks with the pram. I would still recommend it all day long if you are somewhat mentally scarred from your first experience.

Childbirth is insane.

Wonderful experience with my elective c-section. Calm, relaxed experience, up and about on day 2, out of hospital on day 3. Healed quickly. Husband went back to work pretty much straight away (self-employed) and could manage well by myself, apart from driving obvs!
Good luck OP xx

I had 3 CS, 2 were emergency and last was planned. While all were ok, the planned CS was a dream. Only negative I can remember now was how shivery and thirsty I felt after the epidural and I took some laxatives after I got home as pushing was sore. Make sure if you are bf they are ok to take.
I was a single parent by the time my third was born and didn't have much choice in getting stuck back into things. I was home within 48 hours and a friend stayed 2 nights to help me lift her for nursing and take my other kids to school and nursery. After that I was fine on my own, standards slipped a bit on housework but I think that's prob true of most new mums. Laundry was hardest but not impossible. Just needed to take it slow.
I walked kids to school from day 5 and I was so relieved to be out and about again!
No driving for 6 weeks is standard and was the most frustrating as I was fiercely independent before.

The scar was a bit stingy for a few weeks when I went from lying to sitting or if I coughed/sneezed (holding it firmly seemed to help) or going #2. I get the odd momentary pain in it now and youngest is now 9.
Body recovery wise I'm not the one to ask. I was a little overweight before pregnancy and now have an "apron" which apparently is more pronounced after a c section but 2 of my babies were very large (9 & 11 lbs) so that prob contributed too. I've no idea when the pregnant-look went. I can't remember it feeling important at the time!

CS are very common now and wishing I'd opted for one for my second (failed vbac). I recovered far faster than some "natural" birth mums. I think a lot of emphasis is put on this perfect birth day and honestly in the grand scheme it fades into memory as there's so many exciting things to come. At the time I felt very upset I didn't get my "ideal" birth with any of my 3, but perspective shifts.

I hope it all goes very smoothly for you. Take all the help offered and start moving slowly and gently as soon as you feel able.

Hi I’m 18 days post C-section after opting after multiple tears previously.

I can honestly say that this has been my easiest recovery going. Kept on top of my pain relief but was up and walking normally within 2 days (once i figured out it was more sore to walk around hunched over that was it)

im not meant to lift anything heavier then the baby. But I’ve been walking with the pram to all our midwife appointments. Just generally taking it easy and knowing when to stop.

I had my baby Friday and was home 23 hours later. I stopped needing pain relief after about a week and started going for small walks by day 3.

Howdoyouwait · 17/09/2025 11:47

Mine was great, emergency but recovered well. Took painkillers for a few weeks, my GP was fab about giving them out and said there’s no need to be in any pain. Scar healed well quickly, do do some massage on it once you can as that really helps. Took a good few months to get full feeling back in the area.

Driving after about 17 days, ignore anyone giving you the outdated six week advice, it goes back to days of no power steering. Check yours, but most insurances don’t even need you to inform or get GP sign off (can you imagine trying that these days) and policy tends to be once you feel up to it you’re covered.

I’ve booked an elective for my next baby. Good luck and congrats on your new baby

Worst part was the first poo, post section! 😭

Pain was manageable, as long as I kept up to date with my painkillers. Just take it steady, and listen to the doctors advice. The post c section injections weren’t fun, and I had them for 6 weeks. But other than that, it was fine. It healed nicely. As I say, that’s cos I listened to the doctors, midwives, nurses etc. and cared for my wound correctly, and took it easy. I didn’t push myself. I’ve got a pouch now, and my belly is like jelly, but it doesn’t bother me a bit. I still get weird pains, and cramps, and some areas of the scar give me the ick when I touch it 😂

casualcrispenjoyer · 17/09/2025 13:21

Both fine in terms of no complications but 2 different experiences

  1. was very overweight and swollen- 103kg at a small height. My baby was only 3.5kg so lots of fluid and weight gain. My recovery was very very arduous- it took me around 4 weeks to comfortably get up without crying or wincing.

  2. healthy weight. Was up about the next day and ok to do nappy changes and feeds in the night as long as I kept up with pain killers. I did have some pelvic pain during sex but this had all cleared up by the time baby was 3 months old.

No lasting problems, no infections, healthy babies, no pouch whatsoever.

SleepWalkingtoSeville · 17/09/2025 15:15

My first was a cesarean. I was out of bed four hours later. Felt a bit winded but walked to the car (a million miles away in the hospital car park) the next morning. Went for short walks from day 2 onwards. Within a couple of weeks I was fast walking parkrun with the pram. And I ran 5km continuously the day he turned 6 weeks old.

I actually found the recovery easier than with my very straightforward vaginal delivery tbh.

VVM · 18/09/2025 01:11

I had a c section 11 weeks ago. I had went in for my usual ctg appointment and it was decided I would be induced that day earlier than expected and then 2 days later I requested a section. I’ve had 3 normal deliveries prior. In terms of the actual procedure it was all very calm. I did haemorrhage badly after though which was picked up by the recovery nurse and was rushed back into theatre and had a balloon put in. I couldn’t turn myself in bed and tbh I thought this was all down to the section but it was the balloon causing this. My daughter was taken to nicu so I tried getting from the bed to the wheelchair which seemed impossible and tbh I couldn’t walk but once the balloon was taken out 24 hours later I was walking on my own. Day 3 on discharge I drove myself home from the hospital and was up and about. Day 4 went into the town centre. It did get sore after around 20 mins of walking so I’d have to slow right down but I had no actual pain whatsoever not even straight after the surgery or days after. The midwives were giving me paracetamol and liquid morphine which I stopped taking as it was making me feel dizzy and sick and I had zero pain or discomfort whatsoever still. The only thing I struggled with for about a week was bending down to pick something up. I would pick a section over natural birth any day again despite the major pph I had. I remember the stinging and pain from
natural deliveries it was horrendous. C sections are not all as bad as what people will tell you (in my experience obviously) I am also type 1 diabetic so was warned about the healing and infection risk being even more risky and complicated but all has been well and no infections.

WhereDoBrokenHeartsGo · 18/09/2025 01:27

I’ve had 3 and had 3 text book recoveries. I was home and in my own bed less than 24 hours after my last c-section. The first few days are uncomfortable but they are manageable with pain relief.
