hiya just wanted some advice so i am on maternity leave and i have had a lot of issues with my employer throughout my pregnancy.
i was off 6 weeks due to being ill with pregnancy i had docs note to support it and i was given a verbal warning to having that time off, i came back to work still not 100% and one day i had to have off as i had no childcare for my 2year old i told them in advance i went back to work the next day and i got given a written warning and said it will be on my record for 12 months. i got told i am not allowed to have any time off or they will get rid of me.
i have really struggled with this pregnancy this time around and had everything u can imagine.

i have been thinking hard about my decision to go back after maternity i have been told im not elidable for child choices due to my hours i work as it is alternative shifts. so on 3 weeks of the month i am 2 hours out from the 16 hours. so i know if i go back to that job i will be struggling to pay for nursery for both children. My employer has pretty much said that i cant have any extra hours which is frustrating but i understand she doesn't have to give me them.

what other jobs can i do that will help around nursey times i have even thought about working from home so i am available to my children.
is there anyone who has experienced anything similar ?

would love some advice thank you for reading this xx

Hi, without being too outing, can you tell us a bit about your current job? Then people might be able to suggest some alternatives.

Was your absence due to childcare an unauthorised absence? Otherwise, how were they justifying giving you a warning?

Are you eligible for universal credit? Was the warning for your sickness?

HumberBridge2 · 16/09/2025 13:24

Pregnancy related sickness isn't counted like normal sickness, and you shouldn't have been given a warning for it. Maternity Action have lots of information about your legal rights with respect to pregnancy/return from mat leave. It's really shitty they won't give you an extra 6 hours per month too. They sound awful to work for 😔

They legally can’t give you disciplinary action for pregnancy sickness or emergency childcare for your child.

If you get 85% paid then it’s just the first month you should struggle to pay the childcare, see if you can get an advance for that
