Midwife booking appointment at home!!?

I am around 8.5 weeks pregnant. I gave birth via C-section last November, so this pregnancy wasn’t planned and at first we weren’t sure if we were going to keep it, but ultimately both decided we would.
So I self referred for antenatal care (UK) and today the community midwife from my local hospital has text me asking to do my booking appointment in my home. Why would this be? The last time I had a booking appointment it was done at the local clinic.

I am just wondering why they’d want to come to my home to do it!? I live practically over the road from the clinic!
Has anyone else in the UK had this?

My first pregnancy in 2017 the booking in was done at home. Second pregnancy was during Covid so was in clinic

I had a few midwife appointments at home during last pregnancy

Oh so it’s fairly normal then? Thank you guys. I was overthinking it completely by the sounds of it! Can they still do blood tests and things at my home?

Most of my midwife appointments 2022/23 were at home. They brought all the kit they needed with them including for blood tests.

And congrats OP 💝

@anxietyangel I haven't had any antenatal appointments at home, but I know it isn't unheard of. They can do your bloods at home. After I had my first child, I had a PPH and when we were home the midwife who came out to me rechecked my bloods because I'd been feeling a bit dizzy. Congratulations on your pregnancy!

My booking in appointment in 2015 was at home.

It totally depends on area & availability OP, it’s just the easiest way to get everybody fitted in basically!

MisiSam · 15/09/2025 19:11

My children are 6 and 4 and both booking appointments were at my home. I'm 33 weeks with number 3 now and this time it was at the doctor's surgery. I'm in the south East.

Thanks everyone for the messages! I see it’s quite common then!! I think it could be so they can fit me in between 8-10 weeks as o was late finding out about the pregnancy so the referral was later than “usual”.
Thanks everyone for your time☺️☺️☺️

I had a number of my appointments at home.

So much better, especially if they are running late.

My last pregnancy I had some appointments at home but I thought that was because I was under the perinatal mental health team.

ShesTheAlbatross · 16/09/2025 16:00

Sounds ideal tbh. I had mine at home, they did the blood tests, and I didn’t have to venture too far away from a sick bowl.

My booking appointments were all done at home (1997, 2000 & 2011) - maybe the trend is moving back to how it used to be?

During my first pregnancy I had quite a few home visits, with the younger two all other appointments were at the clinic as far as I remember.

Notellinganyone · 16/09/2025 16:01

I had all my appointments at home for all three pregnancies. It’s much more relaxing.

anxietyangel · 16/09/2025 17:20

That’s really interesting what if used to nearly always be done at home! Maybe Covid changed things??
thanks again for all the replies, it’s really helpful ☺️
