Placenta previa

I was told I had placenta previa at my 20 week scan. Yesterday I had a rescan and they now think it’s just a very low lying right posterior which is 15ml covering at the moment. To be on the side on the caution they’ve referred me to fetal department as I’ve had previous csection - can anyone tell me what the fetal department do other than monitor? Why would they refer me due to previous csection? Is this because they assume I won’t be able to have a natural birth again?

Is it likely I’ll be told to rest. I’m in a quite demanding job as a special needs teacher - full time in class.

at present I feel very heavy on my right side. There’s a lot of pressure and it’s sore. I don’t know how long I’ll last in work to be honest.

Hi OP, I was told this at my 20 week scan too.

Mine is 1.3mm from OS, also a previous section, posterior placenta.

Im currently in hospital as had a small bleed, now 26+4. I’ve been in for 3 days on monitoring, so well looked after!

They basically keep an eye on it and will rescan at 32-34 weeks in the hope that it has moved up out of the way

From my research a posterior with previous section has about a 50% chance of moving out of the way. It’s about 90% chance of moving in general.

Im booked for an elective section anyway, and now on pelvic rest to avoid another bleed.

I do get random period like pains and the heavy feeling so maybe that’s to do with this?

I have only about 2 weeks left at work to get through! But I’m not sure what duties I’ll be able to do in that time. We shall see!

I hope all goes well for you 🙏🏼

I was hoping to get to end of Christmas term before going off but I don’t think I’ll be able too. October half term would take me to 28 weeks.

no bleeding fortunately. But things could change

Same I was aiming for week 29/30 which is only because I have full holiday allowance to use up

Now im not sure I’ll last these 2 weeks! Will have to muddle on through best as I can

My bleed came at 26+2, not a bad one fortunately and I’m hoping not to get any more 🙏🏼

Best of luck OP

I had this, I had scans every couple of weeks and by 32 weeks it had shifted out of the way.

Did you rest well or were you carrying on as normal?

Having a previous section and now a low lying placenta would mean they'd need to outrule placenta accreta spectrum. It's not hugely common after just one previous section but that's what the fetal medicine team will look for, just out of an abundance of caution.
