Pregnancy sickness, help!

Hello everyone, I'm in the first trimester trenches, struggling every day with nausea and vomiting. I just wanted to come on to see if anyone had any words of encouragement/ wisdom / experience. I'm about 11 weeks pregnant now and it all started at about 4/5 weeks. It started with nausea that lasted 70/80% of the day and progressed with vomiting and the last couple of weeks or so my sickness has got much worse. Some days I barely keep food down. My daily activities have completely stopped, no work, barely making it out for a food shop, walk etc. I'm on Xonvea and I'm now on max dose of 4 a day but I don't feel they're doing hardly anything, if anything at all. Been on em about a month now. I'm just clinging onto the thought that this may end / ease into he second trimester. Has anyone got any advice / things they helped them? I feel like a shell of a person at the moment. I am so happy to be pregnant but I am just focusing on muddling through each day 😞

Hi, you sound exactly how I was a few weeks ago, I completely sympathise it's awful 😞
I'm also on xonvea and I even went back to doctors for a different medication as I felt it just wasn't working anymore and they wouldn't really give me anything else due to 'risks'. My sickness really peaked at 11 - 13 weeks, I started being sick more frequently and literally felt like I was dying 😩 the good news is I am now almost 15 weeks and this past week it has dramatically improved - I've stopped being sick, nausea is still there but much more manageable and I'm eating more again. So if you can just hold on a few more weeks I'm sure it'll turn around for you too 🤞🏼I honestly know how miserable it is but it will get better even if it doesn't feel like it right now! 🤗

Sending lots of sympathy as I had horrible sickness with both of mine and honestly, if people haven’t experienced it, they’ll never understand how debilitating and depressing it is.

I can’t give any advice really as medication didn’t really help except to say… take it one day at a time and rest as much as possible around work. Mine abated by 20 weeks with my first and a little bit later with my second so, without trying to sound negative, try not to pin your hopes on it magically disappearing by 12 weeks as I was even more depressed when mine didn’t. BUT you’ll get through it and you’ll look back with horrible but fuzzy memories one day I promise. The only thing I could stomach with my first was bowls of sugary weetabix and with my second it was purely ice lollies and Fanta ice blasts. Nibbling slowly on dry breadsticks kept me going through the day at work.

This too shall pass ❤️

Just a few more weeks and things will improve. It's so hard. I have had really bad nausea in my pregnancies. If you want to you can ask to go on ondansetron as well. It is hell, it should improve for you very soon.

I just wanted the send some love and support as I was in your position with HG in late Jan/early Feb (now 38 weeks!). It really does take the excitement out of pregnancy so I feel for you.

My advice is just to take one day at a time. I concentrated on fluid intake to prevent dehydration and in terms of food I just ate whatever I could manage to keep down - think bland food and little and often. I survived on pizza, sausage rolls, crisps and grapes for weeks. I found I could tolerate fizzy water much easier than still water (usually hate the stuff too!). If you’re being sick a lot it’s just about getting calories on board so don’t feel guilty!

My sickness peaked around weeks 10-11 and then gradually started to reduce and I felt like I could live much more normally again, even managing a weekend away in week 13 (albeit not feeing great but it was our 1st wedding anniversary and we’d booked the weekend away in advance). I’ll be honest with you that I still get nausea now and I’m still on anti-sickness meds (Ondansetron and cyclizine) but I haven’t been sick in weeks so it is very manageable for me now. The nausea still gets worse if I’m tired or hungry so don’t push yourself.

Keep pestering your GP about the meds if they’re still not working for you as they can prescribe more than one. I was told the meds can be a bit trial and error so it may take some time to find the right combination for you.

There is a great charity called Pregnancy Sickness Support that I reached out to. I filled in a form on their website and had WhatsApp contact with them and some great advice.
