Am booked to fly abroad when i'll be 32 or 33 weeks pregnant, am only away for around 10 days. I asked the travel agent when the flying restrictions were and she just said usually around 7.5months but she wasn't sure Should i obtain a letter from my m/w just the same? And what has been the latest you've travelled when pregnant. Flight is around 4.5-5 hours.

Thank you.

i was told no flights after 6 months. having flown at 5 1/2 months I probably wouldn't ever do it again any bigger.

you need to phone the airline. each airline have their own rules and you may or may not need a letter.

i'm flying on scandinavian airlines at 33 weeks, but i checked first.

and i did a long haul flight at 7.5 months - 10.5 hours! airline was fine - weren't interested.

Thank you. Think airline we're going with are pretty much the same hence travel agent's non-interest/vagueness at my question. Will give them a call in the morning and hope that i actually get through...

I flew last year at 24 weeks and was fine. Just bigger and heavier this time and 2 LO's with me - bit panicy now but can't wait for rest away. Thanks again.

I flew at 28 weeks last year and although the holiday company told me I would be best to get a letter from the doctor or midwife, I didn't in the end because my mw told me that the doctors don't do those letters any more. It's something to do with them not wanting to say you are ok and then get sued if you go into labour on the plane, I think.

Anyway, the mw advised me to just take my pregnancy "notes" along instead, so that is what I did. Nobody asked to see them though.

Some airlines like BA allow you to fly up to 34 weeks but I'd suggest you check you can get insurance at that stage in your pregnancy as well as checking with your airline.

I was 7 months pregnant when I flew to S of France with dd. Got insurance through the post office and I think (although memory is hazy) I may have got a doctors note to say I was fit to fly as well, just in case. I was fine, no one questioned it and I was pretty big by then as that was no2. Must admit I never even thought to ask the airline (was a scheduled not a charter flight).

I'll be flying up to Edinburgh for BIL's wedding at 35 weeks (BA let you go to 36). Am hoping won't go into labour on plane {grin} but it's only an hour in the air so hope will be OK! Am 29 weeks now and would happily fly.

Nats79 · 04/06/2008 12:59

ps - airline advised taking a gp letter any time after 28 weeks.

I flew at 28 weeks and needed a doctors note - they tried to make me pay for it!! If they do that just refuse, you shouldn't have to pay.
