new born baby clothes, and what to pack

hiya!!!

i just need to know how many baby gros and vest i should pack for my hospital bag?

also what else shall i pack? muslin squares?

sorry im a first time mum...

also, do u need to buy a pram coat, or a all in one suit? my baby is due in july...

I wouldn't go for pramsuits - Ithink you are better off with layers- perhaps some velours for chilly days in the summer.

LOts of vests- especially for the exploding poo at the start!

I use baby bundlers or nightgowns instead of sleepsuits, you can get them reasonably priced in mothercare and John Lewis- they last for around six months and make nappy changing very easy.
Don't take blankets as they may get lost in the hospitl laundry.DH can bring the things you want for taking baby home at the time- or keep it in a separate bag until then. I lost a lovely shawl with DS that my mum had made.

Cardigan, hat, bootie socks

some harringtons (muslins), hopeffully you won't be in for long, but DH can do laundry for you.

I've packed 4x vests, 4x sleepsuits, 2x hats, 2 x socks, 2x outfits, 2x cardigans (hand knitted by my lovely Nana awwww) & a blanket

I figure if I need more shall just get DH to bring it in for me.

Pack yourself a few carrier bags for dirty washing too, that way you can sling it in a carrier bag & get DH to take it home for you to save it clogging up your bag whilst in hospital

if you're in any longer dh will be going home to get more stuff for you anyway - make sure he knows where things are

babygrows are all you need and bypass the need for socks. get ones with integral scratch mitts

One is his coming home outfit & the other is just in there incase I change my mind lol!

I'm taking far less stuff this time then I did with DD PMSL!!

Love the integral scratch mitt sleepsuits - that's all I buy sooooooo much less hassle!

In addition to all the stuff for baby, dont forget (i) some babysoap for baby's bath -in case you end up staying for a few days (try and get some organic stuff - otherwise the midwives will wash your baby in whatever they have to hand), (ii) some lanisoh cream for you (if you're hoping to breastfeed) - absolute life saver!

MWs recommend no products at all in the bath for the first 6wks...

Do you think vest and babygrow with a plush blanket over top in car seat, is ok for leaving hospital this time of year?

yes, in fact they may even be too warm if car has been sitting in sun

start with vest and babygrow and play it by ear thereafter
or if it's really warm that day start with babygrow only
carseats can get v sweaty

When DD was born (June '06) it was right at the start of that major heat wave & she came home in vest, sleepsuit, hat & cardigan

Intend on doing the same with Little Man this time too

I know the MW's may recommend no products at all, but when was stuck in hospital for 4 days after birth of DS, the midwive washing him insisted on using some awful chemical filled cr*p on my DS to get the birth gunk and dried blood off him - while all my lovely organic stuff, for use after wk 6, was in my bathroom cupboard at home.
