Pregnancy after pregnancy unknown location

Hi, just looking for some advice and reassurance really. About 7 weeks ago I had an early loss (around 5/6 weeks) I was under hospital care due to having bad pains for a week, hcg bloods were done every 48 hours and were only increasing very slightly and with nothing at all on scans was treated as a pregnancy of unknown location / suspected ectopic, after a week hcg began to decline and I began bleeding, final bloods confirmed everything had came away. Anyway 6 weeks later ( a week ago today ) I had a positive test again, I felt off so had a feeling. I’ve had one period after the loss which was just over 4 weeks ago so things are still very early days. However the last few days I’ve been having quite strong period type cramps on and off and just don’t feel great, also very anxious after what’s happened, would it be worth speaking to my gp yet and seeing whether they would offer some bloods or anything? Not sure whether to just wait and see how things go but just worried that the risk is increased due to how quickly I fell pregnant again. But at the same time don’t want to go bothering them if there’s not much point. Thank you x

Sorry to hear of your loss.

Have you registered your current pregnancy with your local maternity unit? I called mine after a positive test last week and they booked me in for my booking appointment at 8 weeks and first scan at 12 weeks. They also gave me the number of the early pregnancy unit in case of any concerns - I had to call the early pregnancy unit yesterday as I had a very small amount of pink blood and they were great (and very kind). I think speaking to the early pregnancy unit may be more beneficial than speaking with your GP.

Hi, sorry to hear about what you've been through.
I'm not a medical professional but have personal experience of early pregnancy complications and loss too. Since you're worried and you have pain and a history of pregnancy loss / ectopic pregnancy, you can go to the Early Pregnancy Unit (EPU) at your local hospital (maybe that's where you were having care previously?). You can usually refer yourself or some are drop-in. Personally I'd start there as they have more specific expertise than your GP and are set up for exactly your situation.

You should ring the EPAU where you were treated and see if they will scan you to confirm location. They can in theory do so pretty early on (less than 5 weeks) but often won’t as they get a better idea of viability if they wait until a heartbeat can be seen. Either way, they ought to be able to reassure you.
