Xonvea advice for those who have experience please

I am 4+4 and already feel nauseous. I am desperate to minimise pregnancy sickness as I did not cope well last time. I was sick from week 6-15 so this time it’s started earlier (does that mean it will be worse, go on longer, or finish earlier?!?

I am seeing the GP tomorrow to get xonvea as I have heard great things. I had cyclizine in my first pregnancy and it helped but I was still bed ridden.

I have read that xonvea takes time to build up. So should I start on a low dose and hope if I feel worse over time increasing it will help? Or should I just go all out and take the 4 tablets a day to make it work as best as possible?

Any experiences to share would be much appreciated and thank you

I would speak to the doctor for their opinion but based on my experience I’d build up gradually- I took one a night with the instruction I could try two if this wasn’t working. Took two and then couldn’t sit up without the room spinning until lunchtime the next day!

Hope the sickness improves for you

@ForeverDaydreaming thank you for sharing your experience. Did the side effects stop for you? Did you keep taking them? Did they help the sickness?

sorry for questions!

I still found I was quite groggy if I took them, and slept in later the following morning.

I stuck with just the one Xonvea at night in the end and used Cyclizine with this in the daytime when needed, which reduced sickness and I was mostly just nauseous then which was good as being sick terrifies me- I also had a few weeks off work after forcing myself in until 20 weeks which massively helped as I noticed that I felt worse the more I’ve done in a day.

Anyone else please! Did it work and if so did you start on maximum dose or build it up gradually? I am seeing GP this morning so I hope I get a prescription

I started Xonvea about a week ago, the instructions say to start with 2 pills in the evening and my doctor said to try that a couple of days and then see if I need to increase the dose.
I started with only 1 pill, because I was so nauseous that I struggled to swallow it. The next day I felt better, still nauseos but better. That evening I took both pills and since then I only have small pockets of nausea. My appetite returned to almost pre nausea levels and my aversions seem to have faded so there are more things that I can eat.
I was very tired the first few days and actually had naps, but that has settled now

@Omgdnswv thank you for sharing your experience so it sounds like it’s working for you well. How many weeks are you? Do you think you will increase your dose to max 4 or are you feeling better on just 2?

I think I'll stay as it is, I'm 9 weeks +2 and manage okay with it. Plus, the little pobjects of nausea are weirdly reassuring in a way, like on one hand it's a pregnancy symptom so I know I'm still pregnant as I don't have many other symptoms and on the other hand I know that I still need them. If I have absolutely no nausea all day then how would I know when to stop taking them?

EmberR · 03/09/2025 08:01

@Omgdnswv that is very true! I’m really glad they are helping you. Fingers crossed I feel the same

I’ve been taking Xonvea for around a month (I’m currently 11 weeks) and I would also suggest starting with the two at night and then building up if needed.

I found that the first time I took it (which was in the afternoon, as I was desperate for sickness relief) made me extremely dizzy/ spaced out and absolutely exhausted, even with just the one tablet.

i’m not taking the two at night, and one in the morning.

It’s difficult to say generally how well it’s working, as I don’t know how sick I’d be if I wasn’t taking it… I still feeling extremely nauseous and on the verge of vomiting for a significant part of the day, but I’m only vomiting either once a day or once every other day currently.

I probably should try a different medication, but the one thing Xonvea has been great for is my pregnancy insomnia. Before I took it, I was routinely wide awake from 1am- 5am but it completely knocks me out for the night.

Fingers crossed it works well for you.

@scott2609 thanks for sharing your experience. Would you not take the full
dose of 4 a day to see if that reduces your symptoms even more?

the GP told me you can also take Ondanestron as a supplement with xonvea if that helps x

I started it in my 4th pregnancy but the pregnancy where it turned out I didn't have hyperemesis having had it with the previous 3
I took 1 at night and 1 in the morning as soon as my nausea started. It took me to no sickness at all, if I forgot my morning dose I was sick in the afternoon. I'd start low but have a low bar for increasing it to 2 in the evening 1 in the morning and then 4 a day. I only needed it for about 3 weeks in the first trimester and 2 weeks in the second.

EmberR · 03/09/2025 10:50

@Superscientist thank you for sharing your experience - you must have been so pleased not to have HG in this pregnancy! Don’t know how you’ve done it 4 times…. Feeling so sick is debilitating

I was actually nearly 8 weeks when I found out this time because I had been relying on the sickness to tell me when to test. Pregnancies 2 and 3 were in 6 months and ended in miscarriage. Pregnancy 4 was without a period in between. I think maybe my body finally got used to the hormones! Having it twice in such as short space of time was tough but it did mean that as soon as I started with nausea in this pregnancy the GP was quick with the antiemetics!
