CS we don't have any midwife appointments (and so no testing) between 16 weeks and 28 weeks here
I presume people could develop it during that time scale?

Absolutely franny, although the chances increase as the pregnancy progresses, as the larger placenta sucks out all the insulin! 28 weeks is a fairly standard time for a GTT (glucose tolerance test) to diagnose it. Mine was picked up at 17 weeks though, and was clearly (from the 4 times daily blood tests I've had to do since) just beginning.

oh ok, we do have fairly regular checks from 28 weeks here
I know the local midwives are just following the NICE guidelines so don't think they are being negligent
I did ask about it (just because it was quite different from when I had ds) and she said that a low risk pg was really very likely to stay low risk, unless perhaps some problems developed at the end, and it wasn't a very efficient use of resources to have a lot of antenatal sppointments early on

Also don't you have less frequent MW appointments with second and subsequent pregnancies than with first? You do around here anyway (unless you had serious problems in the first pregnancy such as pre-eclampsia which they know are likely to happen again).

I saw midwife every four weeks from 12 weeks to 24 weeks (with 20 week scan at hospital as well) then every 2 weeks to about 36 weeks, then every week until the end. No 12 week scan (not offered but paid for a BUPA scan at 15 weeks because I had a bleed) and triple test at about 14/16 weeks if you want it (which I didn't). That was my first pregnancy and I know in my book there was a chart showing which of those appointments is skipped for 2nd + mummies.

It's changed a lot in my 3 pregnancies in 4 years! With my 1st there were regular checks right the way through, now, as with my second I just have booking appointment, 12 week scan, where I saw the consultant (I've had c-sections), now I just have 20 week scan then MW fron 24 weeks and then another in 4 weeks (I think) then every two weeks thereafter.

I was told it was deemed that the earlier appointments were of little medical advantage and gave the sense of pregnancy being a medical condition rather than something normal, so policy has been changed.

I would have gone at 16 weeks for the triple test if I'd opted for it, but I choose not to have that test with any of my babies.
