Baby perfectly fine and average size, but potential issues with blood flow

Hi all,

Just had our 20 week scan and everything okay with the baby - completely average size and everything looks good.

They did pick up that there was a slight issue with bloodflow to the baby, and they have booked us in for 28 and 34 week scans just to check on growth.

They mentioned chance of baby being small and possible early inducement, but most babies are completely fine in the end.

Obviously mixed emotions - as of now the baby is completely fine but now we know of a risk.

Just wondering if anyone has been through the same?

So not exactly the same, but I found out at 37+6 that my daughter had stopped growing. Only found out on a presentation scan as she had been breech. I had had scans prior to this for reduced movements, and they said (this was a Friday) that if there were more reduced movements over the weekend they would induce immediately, but otherwise I was booked for induction on the Monday at 38+1. She was born in six hours, 7lbs 8oz, and they then realised I had a small placenta that may have been causing issues. So my top tip is to watch the movements. Find your baby's pattern and any deviation go straight up to antenatal. Regardless of the hour. My sonographer said that a scan is just a snapshot of how the baby is - movements are much more reliable with regards to general condition. Best of luck x

Thank you so much for coming back.

Just had the formal email following the scan - uterine artery pi increased.

@Dunney77 all you can do is be attentive. Plenty of people have blood flow issue and have perfectly normal births and children. Just keep tabs on movements. Xx

Hey, we have just had similar , current 18 weeks and had an early Anomaly scan (due to previous pregnancy complications) baby is growing fine all his organs etc are working well as they should be but apparently he only has a two vessel cord, which is linked to restricted growth.

we are under fetal medicine anyway and our consultant said not to worry, it’s quite common, they just like to keep an extra eye on growth.

also when I was pregnant with dd we were told she had restricted growth and that I would be offered an early induction , she was actually born at 41 weeks a healthy 7lb 10oz , perfectly healthy. They gain a lot of weight in the last few weeks.

Hope this helps you feel a little more an ease .
