Booking appt?

i have just received confirmation of my booking appt which will be a week on Monday - just under 4 weeks from conception (or when I think I conceived) so nearly 6 weeks pregnant. What can I expect at this appointment? Should my partner be there? Will there be any tests done to show the pregnancy is progressing normally? I am new to this but having an idea of what to expect would be helpful.

My dh never came to mine.

You might be asked for a urine sample - my midwife was always pleased when I turned up with one ready for her!

Have in your head your own and your dh family’s medical history as there are loads of questions.

In my experience the appointment races along - I did not feel there was much time to ask questions. If you have questions then take a little list written down.

Your first scan will be the 12 week scan

No need for DH to be there, it’s just asking a lot of medical history, and they’ll do your height and weight.

They will also do a urine sample and blood tests, and ask if you want the testing alongside the 12 week scan to check for Downs etc.

If you’re a high risk pregnancy, you’ll get referred to a consultant but otherwise it’s fairly uneventful.

Oh and you should get your maternity exemption certificate for prescriptions and dentistry.

They will go through your history to determine risk factors.
They do blood tests to determine your blood type, general health checks including hiv and stis
They will ask about your relationship too
My midwife sends me away with a sample pot to drop off at the surgery and asks for first wee of the morning sample, with the later appointments she gives me a pot to bring one to the next appointment.
She'll do weight and height too and get you to blow into a co monitor.

Ask for your prescription exemption certificate to get free prescriptions.

You will be asked about where you want to give birth and where you want you scans. Don't worry you can change later if you wish so you aren't held to your decision. They will go through the testing that goes along with the dating scan for trisomy conditions and get your consent for those.

Will they test to confirm the pregnancy? All I’ve got is my clearblue test, I thought I’d have to go to my GP to get it confirmed but they weren’t interested

That's because they would only do the same urine test as you have already done.

No they don't. They take your word for it that you have done a pregnancy test and it was positive.
They would only measure your HCG, the hormone detected by pregnancy tests, if they had concerns about how the pregnancy is developing or they need to estimate how pregnant you are.

I had a threatened miscarriage which turned into a miscarriage and they checked my HCG then to see if it was going up or down over 48h and it was going down. Another time I didn't know how pregnant I was due to a lack of period so no lmp and they wanted to do an early scan to estimate how pregnant and if it was in the right place was to start me on progesterone due to previous losses.

I had my first appointment yesterday at 10 weeks (I registered at 6 weeks but they never got back to me). Partner came against his will, but he didn't have to. Mainly just to watch our toddler because he wouldn't stay at home with him 😂 They ask lots of questions, about any previous births/pregnancies. I had a blood test, blood pressure taken and carbon monoxide test. I was also told because my last pregnancy was high risk I will be again this time, so maybe to determine your risk factors also. I never had this with my last babies, so could just be my trust. She then booked me for my consultant appointment which is at 16 weeks, but didn't hear about scans so I'm not sure if I need to book them myself. It's all changed a lot since I had my last babies, but it was mainly an hour of questions
