Pregnant but previous mmc after early scan.

Hello, my last 2 pregnancies were both mmc. With the last one, I had a private early internal scan at 8.5 weeks which showed a strong heartbeat, but then just before my 12w scan I started bleeding, when the epu scanned me to confirm it was a mmc, they said it had stopped growing at 8.5 weeks (exactly right after the scan).

So now I am finally pregnant again, and my epu are offering scans at 7, 9 and 11 weeks. However, because of last time, I feel really scared of having the internal scan. I am wondering if I should hold off until later and get an abdominal scan.

I know everyone says the early scan doesn't cause miscarriage but what if with sone people who are more sensitive to it that it does. I don't really know what I am asking, just not sure what to do as I would like to know sooner if something was wrong but also wouldn't forgive myself if I got an early scan and the same thing happened again.
TIA x

Its all coincidence.
I had 3 miscarriages after internal scans i would bleed heavily!
Im now on my 4th pregnancy and felt the exact same as you! But i perservered with it. I went for an early internal scan at 7 weeks pregnant and found a heartbeat, im now 28 weeks, ive had internal and abdominal scans and all is fine.

If you can try and request progesterone. I had to get mine through my recurrent miscarriage clinic consultant, but EPAU had agreed that i could have it. Usually they want to scan you to see if baby is in the right place.

I understand your worry, however the probe doesnt go far enough inside you to cause any issues, it literally pretty much just sits at the opening of your vagina, it doesnt go all the way in!

Trust the process, they wouldnt give women internal scans if it caused issues, its a lot for your mind to believe after such stress and heartache but trust the process.

I now believe my body wasnt ready for babies which is why i had my 3 miscarriages, as no other issues were found! Good luck and gentle congratulations to you x

I appreciate you typing up all of that and sharing your positive experience, that is great you are now at 28 weeks, congratulations. I felt like the private scan wasnt gentle either, there was alot of moving and jiggling about and it definitely went in far, which also made me feel worse.
Maybe did have a bad scan and the epu would be completely different.

I was given the progestrone pessaries after my positive test, to take x2 of 400mg a day until 16 weeks. Do you think your progestrone helped things for this pregnancy?

As PP has said, it's all coincidence. In terms of if you should get an early scan this time, that's totally personal preference. Will you worry more or less if you don't have one? There's honestly no correct way to handle pregnancy after loss. I've had 4 MMCs, now on my 5th pregnancy and made it to 21 weeks so keeping everything crossed this one works out. I've had 2-3 internal scans each pregnancy. My most recent 2 losses were random genetic issues, the first 2 we will never know what caused.

Hi @Moosey898 ! We have been on lots of threads together over the past few years, I am so pleased to read that you are now 21 weeks, congratulations!
Thank you, did you have early scans with this pregnancy too? xo

@Ladyinpink1 I knew I recognised the name! Thank you ☺️ it was a bit of a surprise, we just kept trying whilst waiting for the IVF referral to come through and somehow this one has stuck this far!

Yep, I had scans at around 7 and 9 weeks before my 12 week, both were internal. I totally understand your fear - it's human nature to want to find a cause we can understand for these things. And I'm sorry you had a bad scan experience too, that never helps. My EPU has always been amazing so I hope yours is good too.

All I can say is your scan didn't cause your previous loss, please don't blame yourself for having that scan. Unfortunately the timing just works out that way sometimes and it makes us doubt ourselves.x

If it helps (obviously I don't know your epu) but I've never had an internal scan with any of mine.
Even at 5weeks they have all been abdominal.
If you're uncomfortable with the idea of an internal, just request you start with an abdominal scan and see how it goes.
But as previous poster have said ,it is all coincidence too.
Good luck @Ladyinpink1

Thank you for the messages @LaTable and @Moosey898

How amazing was that , the best surprise for you @Moosey898 It's so lovely x

I phoned the epu, they said they don't perform any abdominal scans, only vaginally. She did say that the wand doesn't barely go in, only a tiny bit to see. So I am just going to go for it and try to relax a bit more.
