I've just had a really pointless obstetrics appointment

The obviously new registrar (I saw him being shown his office!) asked me 3 questions: when am I due, how am I feeling, and how I envisage giving birth, which he then said we would discuss at 36 weeks. Oh, and then he measured the height of the fundus. Basically nothing my MW couldn't have done in the local surgery, rather than me pay for a childminder and do a 40 mile round trip. I am so glad the department had managed to squeeze me in for a 2nd development scan at the same time (the sonographer couldn't see everything the first time cos the baby was in an awkward position). Am I expecting too much, or is that normal?

Sounds like the typical OB appointment to me. Your lucky if you get 5 minutes with them. But prenatal checkups are the same with an OB and a midwife.

what did you expect?

Roskva - I had one like that - he spent five minutes asking me about my SPD (I was on crutches) and then said: 'so how many are you having?'

They tend to see you routinely whether they need to or not when you go for a scan which is a complete PITA for you, but good for their training I guess.

You know to flee when they ask if they can try drawing some blood 'because they have a test next week and haven't had a lot of practice' (yes it does happen)

I expected more discussion about my birth options, bearing in mind that the only reason I've been referred to obstetrics was that I had an emergency s-section last time. As apparently there's no point in discussing that until later in pregnancy, I just don't see what the appointment I had today was about.

typical ob appt

Whomovedmychoc, your's sounds even less with it than the one I saw. And this appointment was scheduled long before the scan was. They told me to make another appointment for 28 weeks, which I did, but I'm inclined to cancel it and see my MW instead.

Gosh he wasn't the worst. The worst was the one who walked in, said 'erm, are you the midwife', and when I told him no I was the patient he said: 'erm, okay, so what are you here for?'

Week 24 appt I told him, he still looked blank. 'This is the one where you pat me on the head, tell me all is well and then insist on me trying to get up on the couch so you can prod me unnecessarily.'

'Oh right' he replied. 'I'll just go get some gloves'

Then ran away. The midwife returned and apologised for him shortly after.
