Bleeding and SCH at 11 weeks

Hi! Just looking for similar stories, advice etc or maybe I just want to rant
I had heavy bleeding at 10 weeks, I was just laying on the sofa doing nothing and suddenly felt a gush of blood. Went to the toilet and found bright red blood, filled a couple of pads in about an hour and went straight to the hospital (this was in Spain as I was visiting my parents). At the hospital they did an internal scan, baby was fine but they could not find any hematomas. Told me to rest, avoid sex and don't lift heavy weights. Spotted for a couple of days with cramping but that was it.
Fast forward to this week, 11.5 weeks pregnant (10 days after the last bleed) the same thing happens but this time I bleed for over 3h and with cramps. I'm back in the UK so I call 111, they refer me to the urgent treatment center where they can't do anything but refer me to the EPU the following morning. Went to the EPU, they checked that the baby was fine with an abdominal ultrasound but did not look or mention anything about hematomas. They told me that some people just bleed and sent me on my way with no further advice.
The day after I had a private scan booked, and just before the scan I started to bleed but only when going to the toilet. I still went to the private scan and they found an hematoma of 1.7cm above the sac (abdominal ultrasound). The woman was in shock that they did not find this at the EPU just 24h before this, she was angry and even asked me if the person that did the scan at the NHS was in training because with my history of bleeding they should have been more thorough. She recommended that I speak with the EPU and they monitor it, she believes that my hematoma could have been bigger and because of my bleeding is already shrinking but it's difficult to know. Since then I've been calling the EPU and my midwife with no response... I bled last night again but only when I went to the toilet and now I just get brownish spotting when I wipe.
I'm not as worried as before because now I know why I'm bleeding and that my SCH is small but honestly the lack of response from the EPU/midwife is disappointing, especially after I've already asked them to refer me to mental health because I was really struggling with anxiety.
In the meantime I'm just keeping it easy, resting as much as possible and not doing any lifting.
Thank you for reading me and sharing your stories

I had a 12 week scan through nhs and everything was absolutely fine. 5 days later i went to the toilet and found i had a huge bleed (considering i had 3 miscarriages previously the sught of blood gave me anxiety and probably brought up some underlying PTSD)
I got my partner to get me another pair of underwear, trousers, and a pad. Thinking i was so strong i just got changed and came downstairs to go sit on the sofa, i didnt get thay far, i just dropped to the floor and cried my eyes out. I rang triage and said im having no cramps, no clots just a huge bleed! They told me to go to EPAU first thing in the morning (it was 8oclock at night and nobody could see me being so early even the maternity hospital wouldnt see me) i went to EPAU that following morning and was abdominally scanned and they said i had a big haematoma, it was on the larger side and that it will either cause complications, soak back into my body or just go by continuous bleeding.
Being told it could cause complications absolutely broke me, my third miscarriage i had a large haematoma which covered the whole sack and stangulated the sac which was the complication.
Im now 28 weeks and I have a healthy baby boy.
They didnt keep track of my haematoma, they didnt ask for me to come back and check it out and i was bleeding up until 15/16 weeks if i remember right! It was brown blood that was coming out, no red blood! Its all behind me now and im now ready for my baby boy to be born, we have everything for him. Its just a waiting game😁

Hopefully you have the same and come out with a beautiful baby at the end of everything!! Haematomas aren't always bad, they can happen and are very common!

If you are worried you can have further private scans, but you can ask a midwife to refer you to EPAU for it.
You can request to change midwife if you arent happy, put through complaints regarding them and also ask your GP for a referral to EPAU. ive seen my GP through all 3 of my miscarried pregnancies and theyve all sent me to EPAU. you can also ring Triage, they are available 24 hours a day! They will also refer you to EPAU.

You should be having your 12 week scan soon! See how that goes!

good luck and congratulations x

hey, i feel your pain. i bled at 5, 7 weeks and 10. was totally traumatised. no one could see the cause including my fertility clinic and epu! finally got answers at a private clinic who couldn’t believe noone else spotted it. thankfully the bleeding reabsorbed by 12 weeks and im now 25 weeks and everything is going as it should. i feel your worry, it’s so horrible seeing blood and not having proper answers. hematomas are relatively common and often do resolve. just take it easy and hopefully it will clear up soon. take it one day at time. sending you lots of good wishes for a healthy pregnancy xx

Hi both @DreamJG @LER2023 thanks so much for sharing your stories! Pregnancy is such a scary time.
The EPU called me back yesterday and they reassured me that everything was fine, that they had actually made a note on my record about an hematoma area however they had not told me this. Would have definitely felt better about all of this if they had told me, better to put a name to my bleeding than to leave it as unexplained.
They said that because this is so common and they diagnose about 5-6 per day at the local hospital they don't monitor them (also mentioned that they are under staffed to be able to monitor them) but that they are common and that don't harm the baby.
I have my 12 week scan on the 1st so let's hope it's resolved by then or reduced in size.
Wishing you the best for the rest of your pregnancies :)

I had a huge bleed at 12 weeks, clots etc and it lasted 5-6 weeks slowing down to brown then black blood (this is old blood), my baby is 16 now and amazing - I had a lot of miscarriages and my consultant was a miscarriage expert and told me it’s common and just relax, no sex or anything daft like heavy exercise etc and things did work out well for us - my second child, I was 39-40 years old when pregnant, his pregnancy was text book lol … my naughty first baby 🤣
keep calm and carry on baking

I bled right from 5 weeks up to around 9 weeks with an SCH. Mine was right near my Os so pretty low down but baby is up high. It's anxiety inducing. Mine was picked up after I ended up in EPU but then at my 12 week they didn't mention it until I asked whether it has shrunk. Just had my 20 week scan (now 23+3) and again no mention so I've come to the conclusion that if baby is healthy and away from the haematoma or it's not huge anymore that it's just something that's there and not a concern.

It might be worth you letting EPU know though and asking for a review as you may need consultant led care.
