Hi guys,

Sorry, I know this has been done before but I thought it may be useful as a reminder for all those packing their bags in anticipation of their new arrival.

What would you recommend packing for baby?

What would you recommend packing for mum?

What would you recommend packing for labour?

Thanks in advance!

I needed 3 nighties and only had two which was horrid I had to stay over and had quite a big bleed in th morning, very yucky, then dh finally turned up with nighties that weren't front opening...

don't forget your maternity notes, a baby car seat to take the wee one home and your camera (these are 3 things currently on my "don't forget to take" list)

i also need to programme my parents phone number into my phone as I presently don't have it in my head and can't imagine not being able to call them in the middle of the night (or whenever) and tell them all about it!

I would recommend some facial water spray like Evian or i think Wilkinsons do there own which is cheaper. This was a god send to me, as just before the baby was born they closed the windows and turned up the heat

I'd take something to eat and drink afterwards, preferably calorific and sugar-laden. I was STARVING and dying of thirst after I'd given birth and there wasn't much available beyond a cup of tea. I'd have killed for a can of coke or similar.

Also, muslins for the baby and for you (for baby sick, wiping up any random spillages/leaks etc).

My partner found it handy to have a pair of shorts and a light T-shirt in the bag as it was really hot in the delivery room.

Can I put my recommendation in for nightdresses rather than sleepsuits for your baby?
They last until between 6 and 9 months! Fab value for money and they make nappy changing really quick, esp if you're really tired- no doing the poppers up and realising that you have it completely wonky. I converted a number of mums in hospital to them. You'd need about 4 I'd say. Can't offer advice for labour things as I've not had a proper go at it- I'm writing other people's advice down!

Post baby, I take tops, vests, t shirt etc. and a few cheap holiday sarongs. Very comfy. Mad dark patterns are best. And my oldest pair of Birkenstocks. I probably look a sight but I'm very comfy!

Be careful with your own baby blankets. My lovely baby shawl that my mum knitted got put in the hospital laundry by some well meaning MW who changed my baby for me and it was lost forever

Agree with putting the immediateley post birth clothes for baby in a separate bag for DH

Another thing I wish I'd been told to bring? A good nipple cream. Can make all the difference in the early days of breastfeeding.
