Gestational diabetes and advised no early delivery?

I have gestational diabetes and a history of pre-eclampsia in previous pregnancy. I suffered a PPH in birth 1 and ended up with retained products too.
Ive been told by one fetal medicine team that birth needs to happen as early as 37 weeks but have now been advised I need to get to term and have a natural delivery.

I thought these complications made me high risk?
Im not on medication for the diabetes as yet?
Ive been told i need to plan for a natural birth and they would only offer a section from 39 weeks but that this is purely elective and may not even happen depending in how busy theatres are?

Any thoughts?

I had diet controlled GD. They were happy for me to go to 40+6. At which point, they wanted me to book an induction or CS. Luckily, I had a spontaneous delivery before then with no complications.

Elective CS always take place around 39 weeks at my trust. They might get bumped for more urgent cases on the day. But i was always told that having GD puts you near the top. You have the right to a CS so push back if they say no.

At my trust GD well controlled can go to term but not past due date.
No one can make you have a natural delivery. You can have a c section without giving any reason at all. If that's what you want you ask to speak to them again.
It is true elective c section may be delayed or bumped depending on emergencies at the time, but usually they can accommodate!

GDM with diet control only (and if baby growing normally), and previous history of preeclampsia (with no issues this pregnancy so far) generally wouldn’t warrant a recommendation for early delivery - usually 40-41 weeks. If you want a maternal request CS then that’s fair enough but should balance up pros and cons, as retained placenta/PPH can be managed with vaginal birth still, and CS operation itself carries higher risk of bleeding than vaginal birth.
if you develop high blood pressure without preeclampsia then timing could be 38-40 weeks.
if you develop pre eclampsia then generally 37 weeks.
most of the time, with preeclampsia in a previous pregnancy, you actually won’t get it again - you are higher risk than someone who hasn’t had it before but still chances are very good that everything will stay stable.
would just ask to discuss in more detail with your team, their reasoning for certain recommendations, and make sure you get any of your questions answered.
hope that might help a little bit and hopefully you are able to get some clarity soon :)

37 weeks IS term though?

Or do you mean they wont induce you?

Thanks everyone.
Im just a bit miffed because my first ever midwife appointment in this pregnancy she recommended a section which was fine based on the disaster of my first birth.
As things have progress with the diabetes and there being some concerns around baby (not growth) early birth has been discussed.
We were told a few weeks ago that I wouldnt be allowed to go to term and baby would need to be evicted at 37 weeks.
I was then booked with another consultant in a different hospital who has basically said there are too many risks with delivery before 39 weeks, he doesnt recommend it and that I need to get to term, ideally 40 weeks, but would allow me to book an elective section from 39 weeks.

I dont want to be induced again and made this clear but they said it wouldnt be offered anyway?

I just feel a bit in the dark, being told baby needs to be born sooner via section and then suddenly, nope, no early birth, do it all naturally.
Im scared to have a natural birth again because of the complicarions before and the poor care I received.
I tried to discuss this with the consultant but he was quite insistant that it needed to be a natural labor.
My midwife is absolutely useless, hasnt given me any helpful advice what so ever as well.
Just kind of feeling really alone in all of this.
