Possible ectopic? Any suggestions?

Period is 17dys overdue, been experiencing nausea, sore breasts, excessive hunger, moodswings, abdominal cramps (like period pains) and some sharp pains in right hand side of lower abdomen (similar to what I experience with my endometriosis which occassionally flares up) Took a pg test on Monday aft which was negative. Been to doc today - they have suggested that I will prob experience an early miscarriage soon as I had a similar episode a couple of years ago which resulted in an early miscarriage. She felt my abdomen and said that it was not tender enough to send me to hospital but to play the 'wait and see' game.

Basically, what would you do from here? Listen to the doc's advice and hang fire and see if the bleeding eventually comes, wait and see if the pain gets worse, buy another test? I just thought they might have done blood tests or something. I hate the thought of not knowing what's going on and that I might inevitably miscarry and that is scaring me as I remember how it was before

Does the above symptom sound at all like an ectopic?

Goodness, I'd have thought your GP was jumping the gun in assuming a mc prior to even confirming a pregnancy, TBH! How thoughtless and heartless

I personally would do another test, just to know! If it's positive, it is not certain that you will miscarry, surely!

Endometriosis in my family often displays these symptoms and in most cases it isn't related to pg, just the nature of the condition.

I hope answers come to you soon.

Have had endometriosis for about 8yrs now and not experienced the other symptoms with it, just the stabbing/pulling pains. All the other symptoms are what I experienced when pg with ds.

If, and it's a big if, it's an ectopic pregnancy, it would show as positive on a pregnancy test, as you would be releasing HCG. I would do another pregnancy test, and if it is positive, ask your GP to do a blood test, with a repeat in 2 to 3 days to see how the levels are rising. Slow rising HCG levels are an indicator of ectopic pregnancy, although not always, as my slow rising HCG 2 year old daughter is proof of! The main indicator to look out for is shoulder tip pain, in which case you should get yourself to A&E to get checked out.

test again, then come back

several of us here have experience eps and can help with "what next"

Yes, everyone's different. The sy

Waiting can be awful and I do feel for you. I don't know what to suggest other than trying another test maybe?

I can't tell you if that could be an ectopic, but I can tell you my experience.

BFNs to 22 DPO, then a period-like (bright red) bleed, then I got a BFP afterwards (I did a test because I felt pregnant).

I went to the EPAU because I instinctively felt something was wrong. The GP said I had miscarried (hence the bleed) but the EPAU diagnosed me with an ectopic after serial HCGs and 3 scans a week later. I had no pain or typical ectopic bleeding whatsoever.

I would buy another test and if that is positive, however feint, I would kick up a stink and demand to be sent to the EPAU.

It probably is not an ectopic, but they can present in funny ways and you don't always get a BFP until quite late, so if you are worried I think you should follow your instincts.

Went to bed last night with a really achey neck and headache but woke up this morning with no achiness, thought at first I might have some sort of infection, hence the delay in AF and the nausea but it would seem that's not the case.

Had heard that ectopic's can produce a negative that's why I was panicking with it also being connected to stabbing pains.

DH is going to bring another test home, I will do it in the morning so it will be as accurate as possible.

Don't know how that happened!

The symptoms you describe could be for any number of reasons. Confirming pregnancy could be a start in you being able to understand what's going on. I know this must be a confusing time for you.

I can't see what there is about your symptoms that would suggest ectopic - you would normally still get a +ve pg test result. I had a suspected ectopic this time simply because on my first early scan the embryo appeared to be to one side of the uterus. Doctors got all in a tizz about it but it wasn't ectopic. I did have sharp pains in my right side though for weeks which I think was just down to my ovaries working overtime at producing hormones.
