What is normal pain in early pregnancy?

I found out I'm pregnant 3 days ago (hurrah!) and I'm off to the doctor's next week, but I just wondered if anyone could reassure me about some discomfort I've been having. It's like period pain but only on one side, and not as bad as usual but located more in one place than usual. It's constantly there and has been going on since I missed my period. It's my first pregnancy (as you probably guessed) and I'm just not sure what to be worried about and what not to be! Thanks in advance for any advice.

There can be many aches and pains in the lower abdo region throughout pregnancy and period type pains near the beginning are quite common. However, IMO, if it becomes more persistant or painful arrange an emergency appt with your GP just to be on the safe side.

I had horrendous cramps for 9 weeks at the start of this pregnancy. I have had endometriosis for 20 years although was pain and period free for the last 8 years. I stopped my hormone treatment and I thought it was my period coming but found out I was pregnant at around 8 weeks. Even for those without bad gynae history, implantation cramps can be quite unsettling so don't worry too much, it's very common, even a little bleed is normal. You can have an early scan like I did if it's really worrying you.

Firstly - many congratulations plantsitter
I had pains too from when I found out for the first few weeks, and yours sound very similar.. I would say don't worry at all.. it's my first pregnancy (I am 18 weeks now) and I panicked and was back at hospital/my GP pretty constantly. Basically it can be a number of things, but i would only be concerned if you had some bleeding too in which case I would get straight to the hospital to get it checked.
It should stop in time, and then get ready for the excessive tiredmess and sickness .
Hope all goes well.

Also, I had a scan at 7 weeks as I was worried - totally sets your mind at rest when you see the heartbeat ahh.

Thanks, ladies. And congrats Lisa and Gilly! I think it's all just so unfamiliar -I'm trying not to get too anxious about everything but being naturally a bit anxious it's a bit difficult!

Hi.
I recently found out I am pg for the first time and had very similar symptoms to yours. I was referred to the local hospital who then referred me to the early pregnancy unit. They did an early scan which was fine and very reassuring - if you are really worried ask for an early scan it does put your mind at rest.
The consultant at the hospital said the pains could be a number of things - could be endometriosis scarring, could be constipation (it didn't feel like this but he said things do slow down because of the progesterone and therefore this was the most likely) or it could just be things stretching and moving around for the first time.
I felt like I was wasting everyone's time but they were very reassuring and kept saying it was what they were there for so don't be afraid to seek reassaurance if you need to.
Congratulations!
