We lost a baby at 20 weeks back in April and I'm just a nervous wreck this pregnancy.
This is my 5th pregnancy and I've had Hyperemesis in everyone and being admitted to hospital by 6/7 weeks.
This pregnancy I've had some mild nausea which has pretty much disappeared over the last few days. I'm waiting on a call from the EPU to get a scan but I'm pretty sure I know what the answers going to be :(
I understand it's normal for some women not to have sickness, but for those who get Hyperemesis or severe sickness in there pregnancies is it even possible to have a symptom free one? Has this ever happened to anyone before?

This is what ive just read about it. 'Yes, it is possible to experience hyperemesis gravidarum (HG) in one pregnancy and not in another, even if you've had it before. While having HG in a previous pregnancy increases the likelihood of experiencing it again, it's not a certainty. Some women experience HG in one pregnancy, normal pregnancy sickness in another, and HG again in a third.'
So you can have a pregnancy without HG! You should be able to get into EPAU, why are they waiting to give you an appointment?

Hi, I'm sorry for your loss 😔 I lost a baby at 19 weeks too, I understand the anxiety - I'm pregnant again too And have been so worried about everything! I had HG with my daughter (16 now) and with the baby I lost (also a girl). I didn't have it with my two boys though, I had mild nausea with one and absolutely nothing with the other! This is how I can always tell early on what the gender is! I have HG again this time so I'm thinking another girl. It has been absolutely awful but it has been reassuring in a way so I can completely understand why you'd be worried 😟 but honestly I'm proof that it can definitely vary from pregnancy to pregnancy. Hopefully the scan will put your mind at rest. Wishing you loads of luck! 🤞🏼

Thankyou for your reply Pennyroses, and I'm really sorry for your loss too. It's reassuring to hear it can be normal. In the Hyperemesis groups I'm apart of everyone says they've had HG in every pregnancy, it's nice to hear that's not always the case! Although I still can't shake this feeling something is wrong, hopefully the scan will come through soon so I can find out 🤞

Yes you can!
I'm on pregnancy 4 the first 3 I had hyperemesis - one birth 5 years ago and two miscarriages last year usually by 7 weeks I was chained to the sofa or toilet.
I conceived straight after my last miscarriage and was prompted to do a test about 9 weeks after my miscarriage as I had a bit of nausea. I had a scan at the epu the next week and was very surprised to be already 8 and a half weeks. I'm now 34 weeks and have had mild - normal levels of nausea/sickness completely different to my other pregnancies

@Grekkie9 hopefully you can get your scan soon and I'm sure all will be well 🙂 I had really severe HG with my daughter, was hospitalised a few times. I was told if I was to get pregnant again to get medication straight away as I was likely to have it again. I got pregnant 6 months after she was born with my son and he was the one I had no sickness at all with!!! So it's very possible not to get it again!

Superscientist · 19/08/2025 19:32

I don't know about my miscarriages but my daughter was the birth with hyperemesis and I'm pregnant now with a boy without hyperemesis

One of my friends had HG in her first 2 pregnancies and didn't have it at all in her third so yes it's definitely possible for symptoms to differ. I'm sorry for your loss OP and wish you all the best for this pregnancy

I suffered a miscarriage at 7 weeks last year. So sorry to hear some losses at 19 weeks.

I'm now 11 weeks pregnant and feel grateful so far but with severe morning (all day sickness) its tough.
x prescribed xonvea and helping but still relentless fatigue and having to lie down/Cant work. Anyone else Cant work and laid up??

I'm trying not to let it get me down, but its hard to feel bright and excited xxx
