Hey, I’m 8 weeks pregnant and the itching is making me uncomfortable, emotional & angry!

* I know there are risks of the liver bile issue causing itchiness, and I will be getting tested, however what I’m looking for is advice on creams etc that actually help. *

I’ve tried oat baths
aveeno cream
e45 cream
My washing powder is non bio
I’m using very gentle shower products.

there is no rash
it’s worse in the afternoon/ evening/ night

am I able to take antihistamines??

thank you in advance from one very grumpy Muma!

I have obstetric Cholestasis so can definitely sympathise.

I think it would be unusual to get it in the first trimester but do bring it up with a Dr to be tested, but be reassured only about 20% of itching in pregnancy is Cholestasis.

Damp cool cloths on the itchy bit is helping me.
Tepid baths no creams and things
Rubbing not scratching the itchy bits

I've been advice to try calamine but it doesn't help me.

There are antihistamines that you can take in pregnancy, I'm not sure what you can buy over the counter. I picked up some chlorophenyamine yesterday but I could only get it as I had be recommended it by a Dr. Seeing your GP or midwife might be your best bet to get the bloods and advice on antihistamines.

I'm an itchy person in general and have to avoid products with SLS in, only use solid soap products - such as soap instead of shower gel, solid shampoo and conditioner etc.

It passes! Hopefully just 3 or 4 more weeks (which sound horrendous, I know) The first trimester was excruciating and nothing helped. I spent most evening sat in the sofa naked. Buying soft maternity bras and pants helped

Obstetric cholestasis isn’t caused by a histamine reaction so antihistamine may have limited effectiveness. It’s awful isn’t it

Yes I meant to mention this, the chlorophenyamine has been recommended for me not as an antihistamine but as it's sedating and can help with sleep.
