We used wipes from day 1 on our dd's bot, with a bit of talc on afterwards to keep her dry. Shes had a lovely soft rash-free bum all along. I found cotton wool and water a bit of a faff.
Apart from wipes (pampers sensitive or huggies are good) Id say johnsons baby shampoo if you fancy, johnsons baby bath and baby oil. Not really necessary but it makes for a nice bath time for baby. We like to put that johnsons bedtime baby lotion on her after bath aswell, mainly for the nice massage before sleep.
Erm, nothing else is absolutely necessary really. None of the above is either really!
Id say talc was v important though for keeping that area dry.

You don't really need anything apart from cotton wool, water. When they get a bit older at 6 months you might want to buy aqueous cream to massage into baby's body to keep it nice and soft.

Whatever you do, DO NOT buy or use Johnstons baby oil!! It is the WORST thing for your baby's skin. It completely dried out my DD's skin as well as my own!

I still don't use anything on ds and he's almost 14 months Grin He's never had his hair washed with shampoo and it looks beautiful.

He has eczema so I put Oilatum in his bath. Still use cloth wipes and water for nappy changes too.

Aqueous cream is really bad for babies with eczema - so that's one to be careful of if you have a baby with sensitive skin. I think talc isn't recommended anymore either but can't remember why.

Talc is supposed to be an inhalation risk, cot death associated etc. Probably all a storm in a teacup but perhaps best avoided since it doesn't achieve much.
