When to tell work and will I need a risk assessment as a midwife?

I should probably know the answers to these things, but I was wondering at what point is best to tell work that I am pregnant? I'm only about 5-6 weeks, I work as a midwife and I have concerns about exposure to entenox on labour ward as there is evidence to suggest prolonged exposure can impact on developing pregnancies.
Thanks!

Personally I'd tell them immediately if you have worries and request an RA at the same time.

I always had to tell work straight away as I was a lab user and every time I was glad I did. In the 3 pregnancies I had hyperemesis so quite quickly needed adjustments due to that. Unfortunately 2 of the pregnancies ended in miscarriage so it was good to have them already know and give me the time I needed for appointments and the physical and emotional management of the loss.

I'd do it sooner rather than later especially if you have any concerns about the impact of your job on your pregnancy

Tell them now. In all of my pregnancies I told work before I told my parents!

I'm in a similar boat, work in a hospital, almost 6 weeks now, but after I took the weekend to digest what was going on I went and told my supervisor for a risk assessment. Didn't like the idea of doing it before I've told people close to me but needed to be done and she was good and said no one else needs to know right now. I also didn't want to say in case the worst happens, but as someone's mentioned, if that does happen I know I'm going to need someone to understand where I'm at.

Now. Also check out the Health and Safety Executive webpage regarding risk assessment and pregnancy. It’s very informative. In my experience you need to manage your line management to manage these things!
