Hi just looking for abit of advice this is my third pregnancy and I’ve been using the Doppler, I’ve been able to consistently find the heart beat from 12 weeks but these past 4 days I haven’t been able to find the heart beat at all just picking up the whooshing sounds and my heart beat am I just over thinking?(currently 16 weeks) 🥴 I’ve been trying to get through to my midwife with no luck as of yet. Thank you

My midwife said to me 16 weeks even is a tricky time to get a doppler to work because baby can hide away! It can take a professional a long time to find a heartbeat. I'd strongly recommend getting rid of the Doppler as if you aren't trained to use it it can cause more stress than good

As a MW I have two things to advise you, one, ring your local triage and ask to go up for a reassurance listen in, something we do all the time. Two, once all that is sorted please get rid of the Doppler. It can provide false reassurance in circumstances when you’d otherwise seek help.

Using my Doppler was fantastic! It’s hard at first to know how to use it but once you do I’d recommend it.
however movements and changes in movements are more important x

This. I am saying this as a medical professional. Please get rid of it

Make sure you've definitely been finding the heart beat and not the pulse of blood flow from the placenta, because they're both very close to each other. I had my 16 week midwife appointment yesterday and they found the pulse of the placenta first which is slower than the baby's pulse.

Get rid of it. They aren’t recommended. They can cause unnecessary alarm. But even worse they can give incorrect reassurance, where the woman thinks she hasn’t felt any kicks, but it’s ok because she’s heard the heartbeat, but she is not trained to listen and needs to be checked at the hospital.

In the kindest way.
Get rid of the doppler and dont do it again without medical professionals.

You cant be 100% sure about what your looking for. You cant always get the correct position.

I had a medical professional do babys heartbeat at 23 weeks (lack of movement from baby) they did it next to my belly button and my midwife at 25 weeks did it right underneath my bump.

Theres nothing to say that it will grant reassurance because without being professionally trained you might be missing very important signs.

For your own sanity, get rid of that Doppler! All will be fine

Hi all thanks for your replies, always listen to your gut I knew something wasn’t right also midwife couldn’t find heart beat so went for scan and miscarried at 16 weeks.
