Maternity clothes for petite women? Or should I just size up?

I’m 5ft 1 (usually a size 6), 11 weeks pregnant and really feeling the bloat and feel so puffy . Some dresses (that fit me 4 weeks ago) won’t even button up over my belly whereas others fit me just how they did from before. So sometimes I feel super fat and others not so much.

I’m probably going to get bigger over the next few weeks and wondered where I can get maternity clothes that are for short women?

im wearing size 10 M&S trousers atm that are comfortable and not tight (the size 6 we’re feeling way too constrictive). They can either be dressed down / or up for work so im happy with these.

Pre pregnancy I endeavour to be very stylish but just want to be comfortable and it doesn’t matter if things look baggy. But it would be nice to wear some dresses with tights in the autumnal months. Where can I get maternity dresses from?

I was also gifted a nice smock top which is my usual 6 size and it’s nice because it’s baggy and breathable and I’m not looking pregnant.

Is it actually worth getting maternity clothes or should I size up 2??

Personally I didn’t like how sizing up looked. I just had a bump so sizing up made things look like I had a saggy ass and I just felt frumpy.

I got a few cute pieces online which kept me going. Like you I wore my normal clothes that had a loose fit for as long as I could and then just got a few capsule bits for 3rd trimester. I did end up buying maternity jeans from like 8 or 10 weeks as my jeans were just not comfortable. For which shops I just used the online shops that I normally buy from as most have a mat section.

I'm also petite and found that sizing up worked for trimesters one and two, but not for three. As my bump grew I'd need bigger and bigger sizes, which ended up swamping me and I just looked like I was wearing a tent. I got all my maternity clothes from Vinted, which has been amazing

I’m small and I just wore stretching clothes until I was about 7 months. I had some elastic waisted jersey trousers, some jersey dresses, and some loose tops. I just pushed the waistband under my bump with jeans and trousers.

I wore some pre pregnancy clothes but not many fitted even though my bump always measured small.

Whilst pregnant, I was a bridesmaid at 25 weeks and my friend bought me a normal dress 3 sizes bigger than my pre pregnancy size. It was an off the peg dress and needed lots of alterations by a wedding dress seamstress to fit properly but I still don’t think it looked great as there is too much material in certain places.

Maternity clothing is cut so much better.

When I was pregnant, Asos did petite maternity.

It depends what it is on sizing up I think…

Im gonna yap a bit here lol

I’m 5-5’1 and usually around 8st and I’m 29w tmoz and I think I carry quite big!!

I ordered some bodycon maxi type dresses from vinted a few month ago which I still fit into nicely and got 2 other similar dresses from primark in black and beige for work, all these are size 8/10. If you are going for a shorter fit you would probably need to size up cos the bump makes it shorter, my maxi dresses are usually long but now I have a bump they’re more like a midi!

My usual size 8 leggings have plenty of stretch and are high waisted so I’m still wearing them until they stop fitting or go see through (Amazon!!) I’d never size up on these as they will be ridiculously baggy around the legs and that’s not a look lol so deffo be getting maternity ones when that time comes.

Joggers are ok round my waist at the moment but depending on fit I’d go maternity when they stop fitting cos I don’t really like really baggy long looking joggers, if you don’t mind a baggy kinda look I’d size up!

I got a few XL T-shirts and stretchy size 8 vest tops which both fit fine.

I currently have size 14 cycle shorts on and they are so comfy for my belly but are a tad baggy near my bits and around my legs but it’s not too bad and doesn’t look too silly but I think maternity ones would be a lot better fit so I’m looking at getting some.

I’d get maternity work pants if I had to wear them (I can get away with leggings and a ‘nice’ top in my office)

I’m 5’3 and generally shorter women seem to get bigger bumps than taller! As there is nowhere else for the baby to go maybe.

I would recommend some maternity jeans or other trousers as that’s the bit you really can’t just size up on. Look for cropped styles rather than being limited to petite ranges. Maternity tights if you tend to wear dresses.

Tops and dresses you can probably just size up - look for flared/ trapeze styles that will fit a bump inside. Once the bump is more or a bump then stretchy will also work (right now it may just be uncomfortably tight).

Agree with second hand!!

A mix of size up, different fit clothes and mat clothes. It in part depends on how you carry and how your body changes shape

I'm 5ft2 and a size 6-8. I'm 33 weeks and am in size 8-10 jeans or leggings as long as they are low fitting as my bump is quite high so my bottom half is a bit bigger than normal but normal proportions so as long as the waist band is below the bump they fit fine.

I have some maternity dresses that fit under the bust and are floaty. I have been wearing these for the last 5 years since I was pregnant with my daughter! In pregnancy the fabric moves around the bump and when not pregnant it drapes nicely. I have some loose fit non-pregnancy dresses that do similar and I'm still fitting in them.
T shirts are a mix, some still fit fine, some don't fit and I have a maternity t shirt. I have some breastfeeding/maternity tops that have panels that move around a bump in pregnancy and allow boob access out of pregnancy... again I've worn these ever since my last pregnancy.

It really comes down to the cut and fit of each garment and where your bump is rather than hard and fast rules.

I’m 5 ft and had the same issue - a maternity/petite hybrid doesn’t really exist! Although I think lovall leggings do them.

I basically just sacked off trousers for the pregnancy and got some maternity tights and wore dresses that flowed over the bump. Also bodycon midi dresses with stretch look very cute as your bump properly forms but it depends how you feel in your body, I didn’t really gain weight anywhere except bump. You could also get some maternity basic trousers in your favourite style and get them taken up.
