Referral obstetrics and gynacology

I've just accidently found out that I've got 2 hospital appointments on the same day and the same time! I thought it was the same appointment but it's not. One is for obstetrics and one is for gynacology. I'm 24 weeks pregnant and my midwife said that because of a third degree tear and retained placenta I would be consultant led. I'm just unsure as to why I've got appointments with both departments come though? I will ring up tomorrow and ask as I can't be in two places at once but I'm not really sure why I've got 2 appointments. Has this happened to anyone else?

My guess would be that the gynaecology one is to do with the history of third degree tear, likely the Perineal Clinic. There you would meet a gynaecologist who specialises in assessing, repairing, and advising on OASI. They will likely have a discussion around what would be your safest mode of delivery this time. They technically are an obstetrician too but seeing as they work in a specialised service they're probably not currently practicing obstetrics. So you'll then meet the obstetrician too as planned.
Sounds like an error occurred with the timings so would still call them to change that for you.

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply back to me. If makes sense! Do you think I should ask to have the gynaecology one first? Or should it not matter?

No problem at all😊 If at all possible I think the gynaecology one first might be better. It doesn't matter hugely as they wouldn't expect you to make a decision on the day. But if it is the Perineal Clinic they will do a thorough history, review notes and maybe examine you, and they'll be able to give you all the odds of recurrence of a third degree tear in your circumstances. So you'll (hopefully) leave there with some good info to aid your decision making on mode of delivery for this baby.

If you then meet the obstetrician afterwards, you can let them know your thoughts on delivery planning having had the input from the Perineal Clinic. You can also hear some of their input on things like c sections etc. if that's what you're leaning towards. Might just help to know what the Perineal Clinic think is in your best interests first.
Congratulations on your pregnancy by the way! 😊

Some times appointments are for the time of the clinic and not necessarily your appointment time so it might be that you are booked in for the 12 o'clock clinics to see the obstetrician and gynecologist.
