Hi there
Does anyone know if this means anything. As per usual doc fobs you off but his reaction shook me a bit. I'm a newbie so easily freaked out

Thanks

Hi!

This is called transverse. It may change before delivery.

My ds was transverse - it may make a natural delivery a little trickier. I had ventouse and forceps.

Ry not to worry.

DrN - Am stalking you now!

Hi Dr Northener

THanks for the reply

Im 34 weeks so still time to turn - presume doc wasn't saying anything cos he hopes baby will go head down. To be honest unless its normal position I would be very nervous about vaginal birth.

How did you manage

Mindy

Mindy - there is a lot you can do solve this - optimal fetal positioning will help - sit on a birth ball or go round on all fours to help the baby turn, but before and in labour. Move around a lot in labour. My DD was a face presentation until I went into labour according to all the scans but she went to the right position the day before. She ended up coming out the catflap anyway (caesarian) but that had nothing to do with her positioning.

Bloody doctors, they should be banned from making enigmatic statements then not explaining them!

Sounds like OP or back to back and not transverse. Transverse is lying sideways and not head down.

Ds2 was back to back and although it was more painful it was very fast. You still have time to turn baby though

Soem good tips there on how to encourage baby to turn.

DrN - sorry, its RedNortherner I was stalking,

Thanks so much for all your comments. Docs are so annoying - I am reasonably bright, well educated and experienced yet he manages to make me feel like a 6 year old in maths class!!!!

I found the line: 'did you get extra credit in anatomy or were you just allowed to skip the communications skills module' does wonders

madmouse · 29/05/2008 20:57

Sounds like 'brow presentation' rather than back to back. Back to back just means facing your tummy rather than back?

ScaryHairy · 29/05/2008 21:05

Transverse can also mean head down and facing to the side. (if you google "left occiput transverse, for example, you'll see what I mean)

Lots of babies start labour in this position and make a turn before they are born. The important thing is to be as mobile as you can during labour to help the baby to turn

You'll be fine. It's pretty standard.
