Ate undercooked pork? Toxoplasmosis?

Really concerned!!
It was in a restaurant in Italy (Zuma) and it was dinner, outdoors, a little dark. I ate maybe 2-3 mouthfuls before noticing that it was undercooked. Not completely raw but maybe medium if it was a steak?

How high are my risks of toxoplasmosis? Anyone had a similar experience? This was about a week ago.

If it was a week ago and you haven’t any symptoms it sounds like you’ve swerved anything nasty.

Ive had toxoplasmosis before being pregnant and the odds of getting it are actually really low. But if worried talk to your doc or midwife when you get home. Mine was fairly obvious and all my lymphnodes went up and i was knackered.

I also have had two healthy pregnancies after having it so don't worry too much. I think its best avoided but its done now and the odds are low.

@MissHollysDollywhat concerns me is that toxoplasmosis can be symptomless

@Cherry85can I ask how soon your symptoms appeared?
I have a mild sore throat / dry throat but I’m not sure if linked. No swollen lymph nodes, no fatigue, no fever, nothing else

@prgnt it will show in a blood test but they have to run that specific one and it can take a while to come back.

@prgnt I honestly think the odds are incredibly low. It's not just a case of eating raw meat - its a case of eating undercooked meat that comes from a pig that has come into contact with toxoplasmosis which in itself is fairly rare nowadays - I got it in the middle east where food standards are much lower than Europe.

If you think that if the odds of the pig you ate came in contact with toxoplasmosis as 1 in 10 (which i would guess would be putting it extremely high to start with! Probably more likely 1 in 1000!!) And then a 1 in 3 chance that the meat was raw enough for it to pass on.... thats a 1 in 3 chance of 10%!! So even on those odds its a 3% chance you would actually get sick - and I am just plucking those numbers out of thin air. The odds in reality will be MUCH lower!

Don't worry too much but get a blood test if you really want to know. Xx

You can eat pork medium rare, although obviously the advice when pg is pretty much eat absolutely nothing unless its burnt to a crisp or if there's a 0.0001% chance of some sort of bacteria.

I remember eating smoked salmon when pg and the day after read thats yet another one of a million things forbidden because of the slight chance of food poisoning. Called my midwife in an absolute state and she said theres more chance of me being injured slipping on a piece than it harming the baby, and that pretty much anything that poses a tiny risk when not pg is on the "do not eat" list as a precaution.

Youll be fine!

@Cherry85@Megiferthank you to you both!! That’s super reassuring
