Little indents on cathedral cheese packaging

Anyone encountered indents on their cathedral cheese packaging? I don’t think they’re perforations or cuts that go all the way through but I am worried as I’ve had some and I am pregnant. Heard that listeria contamination can happen with things like cheese. Anyone know if this may be a risk? They were on all the mini cheeses in the pack I picked up and didn’t realize till after I had one. Thanks!

This is nothing to worry about.

ForZanyAquaViewer · 10/08/2025 08:45

You are totally fine. Do not worry about this.

I find it more concerning that you're up at 04:45 posting about cheese packaging!

Goodness. You can't go through pregnancy and having a child with this level of anxiety Op

This may sound crazy but I also suspected those indents are some kind of built-in freshness indicator. The only single time I got a mouldy block of CC cheese was in a packet that was covered with loads of those little indents. The texture was immediately "feelable" when I picked it up off the shelf but I shrugged it off. Normally, CC plastic is smooth and wrapped tightly around the block.

That said, I have bought some blocks with those indents that were fine inside, but never as noticeable as the one which went off. My hunch is that they might be reacting to temperature or some kind of indicator to show if the cool chain was properly maintained.

Thanks. The cheese did taste and look fine. Interesting that it could be a freshness indicator?

Cool. So basically advice is don’t be anxious. Really appreciate when the internet starts giving mental health advice. I’m just gonna put this out there but I’m pretty sure I’d have looked at resources for anxiety before coming here with a question about cheese. I’m not originally from the UK so I have no idea if this was a normal variation or not. Thanks for the comments but I don’t think anyone with underlying anxiety finds it helpful when they’re told you really need to get your anxiety under control or like you can’t go through pregnancy like this. Appreciate it, comment acknowledged, really doesn’t fix any anxiety.

I’m not sure if this is the case with you, but I’m generally not a remotely anxious person and pregnancy made me so terrified of everything that I was barely able to function. If this sounds even a teeny tiny bit like what you’re feeling, you have my sympathies. Please speak to your GP, as it’s a horrible way to feel.

Thanks, what did the GP do for you?

I wouldn’t worry about this it all- I ate all sorts when I was pregnant and also had the occasional glass of wine (I was pregnant nearly 20 years ago when women were still alllowed to make their own sensible choices about what to consume based on research and advice available at the time).

Anxiety can be a very difficult thing in pregnancy. I’m sure there used to be specialist midwives/health visitors who were specially trained to work with women who are suffering mental health problems in pregnancy. Might be worth asking if you can see someone like that if anxiety is causing problems in your pregnancy. 💐

Thank you for the recommendation. I think we really forget what pregnancy looked like before a lot of the mass hysteria.
